While I cannot speak directly about the kit offered in Geno's Garage, I can say that I had a clear film (I presume it to be vinyl) applied by a local detailer before my truck left the shop with a new paintjob. She did a very nice job on the front 10-12" of hood and over both fenders. After more than 100,000 miles it looks great, with only a few battle scars, and nothing has penetrated to the paint which is like new.
It is almost invisible on my Driftwood paint. Has stood up to numerous car washes, including me with a pressure washer, cleans up easily, and has a very nice gloss. If I could afford it I would do the whole truck in this stuff.
I have had bug deflectors to protect the hoods on other trucks and they are a pain. The turbulence they created gave my wife a headache when the windows were down, they were a source of bad noise (not good noise), and the close fitting ones will trap rocks, acorns, sticks, etc. between the deflector and the hood creating big damage.
It originally cost me about $100 to have it done and everyone who has seen it says it is the greatest. Than they buy a bug deflector... go figure.
