Good points Coolslice, Just as I decide to ditch the Scotty for afe stage 2, I see another thread about melted turbo boots, so I will stick with the scotty for awile and give it a chance. Or maybe back to the stock box with holes.

Yep, I had read some discouraging things about the AFE myself recently before I purchased. .

Keep an eye on your mileage if you keep the Scotty on there and tell us what happens w/ your truck. . I have read several post about people getting significant gains in their MPG's with it. I don't usually believe those people who claim they saw an improvement, but my results look good. To me, at this point I'd much rather have better mileage than lower egt's. . :-laf

I went with the AFE Stage 2 about 30 days ago. Engine feels more responsive with a quicker spool up and about 1 MPG increase. Stock motor W/O guages so I can't comment about EGTs. I also read about the melted boot from a couple of members after some really severe pulls for extended periods. I checked mine after towing 8K up fairly steep grade. No problems so far but I will keep an eye on it.

If you want to hear your turbo, Stage 2 is the way to go. Either Scotty or AFE is light years over stock air box. Diesels need huge amounts of air to run efficiently. Between my AFE system and Flowmaster muffler, truck runs perfect.
