I don't get it! Whay does Scotty's substitution of a conical K&N do to improve over the first generation's larger barrel filter, if I've got a K&N barrel filter?

I have not tried the air induction approach with the 1st gen trucks. However, the concern of whether it improves on the big canister filter was one of my first. I really do not know if it can be improved upon unless the air supply is cooler like the approach on the 2nd gen trucks.
Where was it mentioned that I have done the 1st gen trucks with my air induction? Have not got to that as of yet.

pondering now

It wasn't; that's why I asked. The first gen gets air from in front of the bulkhead under the headlight. The surface area of the inlet pipe is much greater than that of the turbo inlet, but I though about replacing the square duct with a piece of six inch PVC. Haven't yet, because I doubt if it will do a thing for it. The stock design is awfully good!

Yeah that air system is pretty good. I had a few 1st gen trucks but I cannot remember the set up vividly enough. I will try to get a look at one.

Scott, when you do, let me know if you think putting a six inch PVC pipe intake will improve over the square intake it comes with.
