Levelling Kit

I have 3 questions. Just bought a2002 H. O. 6spd 3/4 ton. Love it! New to the diesel thing tho. Can any one tell me anything about the scotty air system? It's recommended by Jannety Racing Ent. Also can any one tell me if stantadyne fuel conditioner is a good thing, should be used or not, etc. Found that recommended on another site. Say's it adds lubricity back to the fuel. And lastly, who makes the 6 spd trans? I live in colo so I am wanting to help the truck breath as much as possible, or do I really need to? It sure doesn't want for power. But like I said I'm new to this so I have lot's to learn. Sorry if I'm in the wrong area. New to this also. Thanks

The air system lowered my EGT's when loaded. Don't notice much difference without an empty truck. I would like to see a better housing than the plastic one, but it works. When my K&N is ready to be cleaned again I think I will change to the AFE. It looks like a better filter. Just my opinion.

It's a no brainier that the stock filter is too restrictive, you have to do something. After two years of monitoring intake and underhood temps I've come to the conclusion that underhood air is the best in my colder climate and the rest of the country at least for part of the year. Physcotty is coming off BHAF will probably take it's place.

Bill, if you do make the move to a BHAF, and if the parts guy will work with you, order a Fleetguard AH1196, this filter has a plastic housing, might be a better filter for our application. Of course it may be to big, Fleetguard list the same dimensions as my BHAF, but I don't know if that's the filter element or the housing. If it's the housing, it's worth checking very carefully.

Let us know if you do.

Thanks, Ronnie

rferguson,

Read the various threads on filters. Look at the Scotty site and decide if your ready to cut a 4. 5" hole in your new truck.

Welcome to TDR Website!!!

I have a "Psychotty Air Filter" on my truck and am very

happy with it. It has lowered my EGT's substantially

with or without a trailer/load. Before you buy one, I

would look at whether you really need the benefit of

lower EGT's. Personally, I needed it bad and the system

works like they say it does. As "QRTRHRS" pointed out

you have to drill a 4" hole in the firewall and some

members don't want to do that.

I also use the Stanadyne Diesel Fuel additive. I have

had good results from that also. You can look at my

"signature" below and probably figure out that my

truck "smokes" under hard acceleration. The Stanadyne

seems to help cut that smoke down and although it

doesn't get as cold here as where you are, we do

occassionally get below freezing. That additve is

"cheap insurance" to prevent fuel gelling etc.

Good luck to you and again, welcome to the site!

I've have been running the 'Scotty system' with the K+N since late Jan. of last year with zero complaints. Egt's are a none issue for me with the K+N and my set up and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I pull a sample at every oil change and send it out for analysis, they always come back looking good. The fins on the HX40 are spotless and the IAT sensor is clean. Works for me, this topic has been beaten to death, do a search and decide want YOU want for YOUR truck, IMHO.

I have also been using the Stanadyne PF since the trucks birth. While I don't see any substantial gain in HP or MPG ( I tried running for a few tanks w/o the additive last summer), if it keeps the injection pump lubed I'm a happy camper.

Do your research.

If you have any questions about the product, just email him at the site for his system. He is a straight shooter and will answer any questions you may have.

He has stressed before that unless you are modifying your rig, the benefits are not going to be as dramatic. This product is designed for modified trucks that are on the edge of EGT limits.

If you are on the limit of EGT you surely don't want any air warmer than ambient going down the throat. Scotty and I are in the process of testing the system to give numbers on the intake side for the technically curious. ;)

BTW There is a reason for the stock systems to be vented outside of under the hood, the performance map of the turbos weren't designed for 150°F air from under the hood no matter how much it is. I have heard from some "performance" guys that the BHAF is bad news, now of course I am not going to call them out. Those that know them have heard about it.

I have had the Scotty air system(formerly Psychotty Air system) for 2 1/2 years. It works super!!!!! dropping my EGTs 150-200 deg. This winter I took the housing off trying to warm the air some entering the engine in the cold and even cruising down the freeway empty I am getting 125-150 more temp than with the housing in place. It is noisy inside the cab, but i kind of miss the noise. :( it will be back on as soon as this winter wonder land goes away.
