I would like to hear the likes and dislikes of both setups and maybe someone that has possibly run both setups to see what there thoughts are. I am undecided on which to try.

First, what is the "Stage II with PG-7"? I'm not familiar with the latest from them. I have the MegaCannon.

One day last summer ('03) a friend and I took his truck with a Scotty II and my MegaCannon in hand out to long 60 MPH 4%-grade hill and did some test runs. He also had a front air dam from Doug Holfeldt (Air Bulldog hood maker), which has a ram air supply built in with a 4" tube up to his Scotty II.

We did a number of tests with the air supply pumbed in, plugged up, air from the cowl opened up and closed, etc. with both filter systems. Of course, with my MegaCannon, it's just open to air under the hood with just a heat shield. We had a temperature probe/meter for the outside air and another for the air between the filter and the turbo inlet. And we monitored EGTs, of course. I posted the results here under one of the 2nd gen forums.

Can't remember the specifics, but as I remember, the only time we saw significant improvement as far as cooler air going into the turbo or reduced EGTs was with the Scotty plumbed to the ram air from the air dam. Maybe a little better with the Scotty (no ram air) with the fender inlet and cowl inlet, but not much.

See if you can find it with a search.

I have no personal experience with the AFE systems, but I do have with a Scotty II.

I ran one on my severly overfueled 97 I used to own (#10 plate & PDR 370's). I ran a BHAF (big honkin air filter aka big rig paper element) prior to my Scotty II and I was in desperate need of some more air!

I installed and ran the Scotty II on just the fender inlet for about 2 months I think, and after intial installtion I noticed a 100* EGT drop! :D Oo. When I finally got the cowl hole cut about 2 months later EGT's dropped another 50-75* Oo.

I have nothing but great things to say about the Scotty II, however some people do not like the increased Turbo whine through the 4. 5" cowl hole. I tried one of the new TAG's (turbo air guide) and it cut my turbo whine by over 50% so you barely even noticed it.

My advice is if you need MAXIMUM egt reduction then go with the Scotty II, if you don't need as much egt reduction then the AFE will work fine too. Heard nothing but good things about it also, just no personal experience.

No experiance with the scotty, but I have the Stage 2 on my 96 and i like the pg7, stage two gets plenty of air and i can feel more power. However, if tube might hit the alt. , AFE didnt seem to care about remaking the tube, you never know

I have the AFE Stage II with PG-7, :D 1st bomb so I know it works my EGT's never go over 600 post turbo. Of course the exhaust helps tons but I could feel faster spool-up and with the TAG no turbo whine. :-laf
