Glolas is correct 100%. Ive been a smog tech here in california for almost 20 years and run a smog station next to the dmv. I still bought my 04 calif so model even though I know the loop holes. I dont regret it one bit!

little update to a call i made...

I called dodge and acted like a customer that lives in cal. , and asked if I could buy from a "friend" in stlouis that had a "600 " on his lot... he said even though the one is stl is 50-state ok... it is not good with cal. and has to have carb emissions package --- but it will still make 325 HP with cal emissions package (YCF) - and told me to have my "friend" order one with that code...

BUT I CAN'T!!!! the computer only allows border states and cal. to order that code!!!!!!

arg !!!!!

OK, I have a great idea for a business. Form a coalition... ... . mabye more like a consorcioum (sorry about the spelling, but I am meaning what small businesses do for insurance); anyways, form this consorcioum. Then this consorcioum would set up an out of state location to "house" its fleet. When someone in California wanted to buy a new vehicle then they would call this "consorcioum" and would... ... ... . rent it off of the consorcioum and it would be lisenced to this consorcioum but driven by the owner in CA.

I know, probably not a good idea, but I am young, just thinking of how to give one last F*^& you to CA.

I mean I live in Indiana, and I remember when I was a kid, and we had a few Massey-Ferguson 1135's, we used them for tilling (pulling disks); and I remember pulling down that Perkins diesel the whole way down the field, and then turning around and knowing where you came from because you could see a streak of black smoke above where you just came down the field. Thats why all this smog control stuff..... I just dont get. I mean they are regulating us running our trucks 30 min to work, then we get on a dozer or something and run it 10, 12, 14 hours a day, and there is very little done.

So who wants to be my business partner.

So I call the California Air Resources Board and ask the specific question and they say in no uncertain terms don't even try it. They don't care if it's a 50 state engine if the sticker doesn't say it's "certified" for CA it ain't comin in. This sucks so bad I can't stand it. #1 I don't believe that there are two different engines. That just doesn't make business or manufacturing sense for DC. #2 I believe that it's entirely a business reason that non "border" states can't order that silly sticker. CA dealers know it and they are stickin it to us. I was hoping the subject line of this thread would turn out false but apparently not. A member passed a tip on a dealer in Nevada that's supposed to match prices. I'll check on that tomorrow and pass on what I find out.

Did they not even mention the amount of time/mileage required before it can come in? Or just it just need to be registered in another state first? Obviously you can bring a used vehicle in, so what qualifies it as used?

No &%^$ man, that is crazy that they are allowed to do that. Hopefully we can find a border state dealership willing to help us out to the same degree as tomeygun! I still think it's worth "establishing residence" at a friend's house in TX... registration sure is cheap there too... heck, I could buy a chunk of land there and get my own address for less than the CA taxes and registration! ;)

Jtwcummins hit it right on the head!

CARB could care less about clean air. THEY ARE SIMPLY A REVENUE GENERATING TOOL!

Always have been, always will be.

Have you ever met a Government entity that is not.

Examples:

Cigarette sales=cigarette taxes=government revenue

Emissions tests=government revenue

CDL requirements=government revenue

Concealed carry permits=government revenue

License tag registrations=government revenue (my new truck will cost $175/year just for tags!!!)

Hunting/fishing license=government revenue

Fuel taxes=government revenue (I would not mind these as much if they were used 100% for better roads, but our repersentatives steal about ½ for the "general fund")

The list goes on and on...

OK I give up. #@$%!

Time to move on...

Anyone know of any dealers in CA, OR, AZ, or NV that will even come close to the deals that tomeygun or Butch from Dishman in WA are offering TDR members? I'm ready to reorder right away.

It sounds like there are enough CA buyers in the same position that we should be able to use that as leverage.

By the way thanks everyone for all the help. This is my first post and it really helps you feel like you're not alone or nuts.

I don't think the Tommygun thing is going to last too long. The only way he can be making it work is to be using employee purchase certificates. I'm sure the dealer he works for will eventually be audited, and all that money that DC paid the dealer for the deal (6% of invoice) will be charged back. In addition, the employees that are providing the certificates can be fired. I wouldn't want to be anywhere near that situation, because if that is what is going on, all involved are party to fraud, and the numbers appear to be getting large.

I hope that is not what's happening.

I DO NOT think this is what Tomeygun is doing. He's explained before how he can pass this deal on to TDR members. Let's just keep hoping there's someone just as helpful somewhere in CA or one of our border states so we can get a 04. 5 with that blasted sticker!
