SDFK 68083826aa filter cross reference

Ok so I have giving thought about getting the Severe Duty Filter Kit (68083853AA) as I have found one at what seems to be a decent price. I am also concerned with water in the fuel. I believe my local fuel stations have some biodiesel blended in. I have a few questions:

1.) Are there any filters that cross reference to the 68083826AA fuel filter? If so, are they readily available or expensive?

2.) I typically put about 7k to 9k miles per year on the truck. Is this fuel filter kit worth getting?

If the truck sits much in a place where there is much humidity, definitely worth the investment. A standard base and a BF1212 WS is about as good as it gets.

if you get the kit it looks like you'll have to use the Mopar filter.it looks like there is no crossover to a fleet guard. I put the same kit on my truck I believe a little over a year ago and checked for crossreferenced filters with fleet guard then and there were none available.I just checked again here is a link and still nothing. http://catalog.cumminsfiltration.com/catalog/jsp/index.jsp?_locale=en&crossreference=yes. if you want to use other filters you will have to change the head unit.

There are a lot of filters that will work with the head unit and most do a better job of filtering. The stock filter is a 25um filter. Baldwin and fleet guard have 10um w/water separation that will work with the head. The issue is bio diesel rating. The stock is bio rated but fleet guard and Baldwin aren't.

I'm still waiting that GENOS starts to sell this SDFK Filter as a replacement part, still needs to go to my Chrysler Dealer only for this single Filter.

All other Filters are available from Genos, I'm not happy in this case.

Try a Baldwin BF1385-SPS. Has the WIF sensor in it an is a 10um filter rather that being a 25um like the factory uses.

Stop - The SDFK Filter has 3µ, a 10µ doesn't make any sense in this setup with the to coarse 7µ Standard Filter.

Finer filtration is important for the early CRDs.

The bio-diesel capability is one of the reasons I was thinking about the factory fuel/water separator kit since one of the places I get fuel just labeled the pump "contains bio-diesel".

I have to go to the dealer tomorrow so I will price the replacement filter at the parts counter and compare it to on-line price with shipping.

The research I did on the SDFK was it was a 20um filter. It is a prefilter to keep the algae and other junk out of the main engine mounted filter so the engine mounted filter doesn't clog as fast.

I bought the newer Severe Duty Filter kit but am not going to use the filter and head that comes with it due to the non-standard filter. I found a Fleetguard head and heater assembly that is almost identical which includes a 1-14 standard thread adapter The only mods I have to make is to move the head slightly to allow clearance for the threaded o-ring fittings I use on the new head. Other than that, the new wiring harness appears to be plug and play including the adapter harness for the updated sensor for the 5.9. I will be using Fleetguard FS19732 as the water separator, it includes a water sensor as well.
This filter is strictly intended as the primary (I'm quite sure biodiesel plays a big part along with injector failures from water). I had one too many close calls last winter with water in biodiesel and had to be very agressive about draining my OEM filter.

The other filter being added to my system is a Cat 1R-0750 mounted on a Cat base which uses a steel threaded adapter. More than once I've had problems with aluminum bases which have aluminum threads which gall or seize making filter removal difficult. I could probably eliminate the OEM unit once the other two are in place, but will probably leave it in place as the pressure drop with the large elements is insignificant.
