I did a searcha nd found a few threads on sea foam. I picked up a can and was going to use it in my 06. Says it cures rough Idle etc. I have heard some say it is the greatest thing ever made and others say it has Alcohol in it and not to use it. I read the can top tp bottom and it says it is safe for all diesel engines 2006 and older. Says it is NOT compliant with 2007 and newer ULSD engines. DOes anybody use it??? Results??? Thanks! Oo.

Roperteacher,

I have used it with success. My 04. 5 had rough idle a few times and I would wait until I had about 1/4 tank of fuel then add a whole can and drive it pretty aggressively for the remainder of the tank. By aggressively I mean drive it around until it is warmed up and then run it as hard and fast as I can up the mountain near my house. That seems to clear it right up. The idle is smoother and it seems to run smoother altogether. I have been running a mix of MMO (marvel mystery oil) and Power Service (grey bottle) and have not had the problem recently. I never did the SEAFOAM treatment very often but I never had any adverse effects with it. I don't tow much at all and most of my miles are commuting to work and back. I hope this helps.

As a side note, the last time I looked neither MMO nor SEAFOAM are 2007 ULSD compliant. Doesn't affect me though.

Every fuel filter change

I drain the canister. Pull the filter, fill canister up with seafoam. drop in filter. Fire the truck up and high idle it at 2000rpm for a few...

Sounds like an "Italian tuneup. "

I did that with my brothers old 73 vette. I drove the sucker HARD!. I mean I had all kinda of stuff coming outa the tail pipes.

The next day my brother takes it to work and that pesky older Porsche shows up on his route again. The one that keeps inching past him. He tells me when his punched it he about crapped him self and walked the Porsche this time!!! :)

Supposedly it's not good for CR engines because it contains both alcohol and some other component (naptha?) that is not good for the fuel pumps. There are some other threads on TDR about it. Seems like it was about 6 months ago or so.....

The alcohol is the issue. It is hard on injector pumps. Cummins rule of thumb is not to ever use alcohol in diesel fuel as an additive. Doesn't matter what the SeaFoam bottle says.

Thanks again guys!! Not sure how I feel about it now! LOLOL I am hearing some say that it won't hurt to use once and see if it works and others say to stear away from it all together... Hummmmmm Thanks!

The majority of major diesel fuel additive manufacturers (Power Service, Howes, AMSOIL, etc) all warn against using alcohol in diesel fuel due to reduction in lubricity and wear on fuel system components.

I've got 90K on the truck now and twice it has developed a rough idle condition, once at about 70K and again this past week. I did what Jason suggested, at fuel filter replacement, I dump in a full can of Seafoam, add the new filter, and fire the truck up. Rough idle is gone after just a few minutes idling. BTW... i use a few oz's of the Cummins/Valoline additive at each fill up, probably could have just used it instead of the Seaform but I know the Seafoam works!

I've had to replace fuel lines & other stuff as a result of costumers using this [ probably , with the idea that , if a little is good more is better ] .
All were gasers .

THanks guys, I hit it with a good dose of the valvolene and will let this tank go and see if there are any changes... My next step would be the FCA as recommended by another member. .
