Any of you guys have the seal number for a 2000 model 2500, would like to have these on hand when i do the back brakes, are they available at Napa etc...

Frosty thanks for you help today.

I managed to remove the hug assembly, did not know the hub and axle housing(part with studs in it) seperated, darn near almost lost a toe this evening lol. Brakes are fine, not sure what that noise is im hearing, only hear it when hitting the brakes pretty hard on a downhill grade, it sounded like shoe scrubbing the drum to me, thats why i checked the brake shoes on rear, its not that. The seal in the hub is Cr540790 or 970 i got the last 3 digits confused anyway i have been on CR's website and neither one of those numbers come up as a match to my seal in my hub, I did take the truck to town and pick up what i think is the right seal, its a National Federal Mogul and its the big one and its number is 455086, i also wanted to see if she was going to leak, after driving 40min round trip i had no leak, i just hope i got the axle nut tightened enough, i tightened it and spun the hub as i was doing it and this is how i did the 92 and so far no leaks and nothing out of sorts so i may be okay.

Could it be i have one side rears adjusted out more than the other and thats causing this noise, i can feel it in the brake pedal and seems to be in the right rear???? Any ideas guys??

I had all kinds of heck adjusting my rear brakes after doing the hub seal. I am used to doing a single wheel rear end and could easily tell when the brakes were right. This duall rear end the wheels do not want to turn easily even with the brakes backed off all the way. What I try to do when adjusting them is to adjust the brakes till the wheel spins freely about a 1/4 turn and stops, that is the way I have always done them. May be wrong not really sure but it has always worked for me.

As far as the hub nut, turn it all the way till it stops then back it off about a 1/3 of turn then put the retaining clip in and you're good to go. Not sure about the noise you are hearing, sorry. Some ideas could be a high spot on the shoe, dirt or maybe the drum has a defect of some kind.

Hobbs

Thanks for the reply, i may need to go back in and tighten that nut more then, don't think i will have any problems but one never knows, and so far the truck was ran for a 20min trip to and back from the parts store this evening and after sitting for 2 hrs i checked and no leaking so i must have gotten lucky with the seal, of course i was careful, not sure if the seal i picked up is the correct one or not as they were not able to cross ref. with the CR number that was on the seal in the hub... Im guessing i have the D80 in my 2500 as its Heavy duty, it was the big honkin seal i know that and thats what i picked up this evening.

This noise im not sure what the heck it is, im going to recheck the front pads again just to make sure but it only happens when im on a down grade and hitting the brakes and sure sounds to be in the rear right side, i know its not the rearend itself so im not worried about my gears... thats what happens when you let your father use your truck for over a month, but i had no choice, he isn't familiar with the in's and outs of the 2500

Thanks for your input...

I need to check my rear seal to see if it's holding up. The dang seal on the rear of the transmission did not hold up well, replaced it and the dang thing is leaking again. I feel pretty dumb though Autozone said they did not have the seal and went to the dealer to get it. Well if I had given the part number from the dealer to Autozone they could have gotten it and would have cost me 3 times less. Lesson learned there I guess, lol.

Wyatt,

By backing off the nut a 1/3 of a turn it gives . 0001-. 010 inch endplay according to my book.

I will go back in tomorrow after i get home and retighten the nut and the back off, i was going by how i did the 92. As i tightened the nut i spun the hub so the bearing would be even, i got to the point where the hub was hard to turn and then backed off the nut about 1/3 i may be okay and did it right, but can't hurt to do it again and it won't cost me anything other than a little time and a cup or so of fluid...

thanks again...
