Okay here is my problem. I have a shell on the back of my truck and it leaks around the stake pockets. I have had it off twice to try and fix this, but no luck. The shop that installed the shell wants to put duct tape over the holes, I say no way. What can I do to seal the pockets?? I was thinking of maybe some tie downs that I cut the hook off of??

I wish now I would have had the pockets sprayed over with line x. The guys at the shop say they put duct tape over the pockets and then spray the linex on.

Just buy some rail top protectors, besides blocking the holes they will keep the canopy from rubbing the paint off. They're available in all types, smooth and diamond plate, stainless, aluminum or plastic. Prices range from $30 to $100.

Another thought would be to use the completely flat tie downs. They normally come with a rubber seal under the top plat.

I would be concerned about the "all purpose racing tape" (AKA duct tape) because it might lift the paint.

John, go to Alaska Rubber & Supply at 5811 Old Seward Hwy (562-2200). Those guys have darn near any rubber product you can dream of in stock.

I haven't looked closely at your shell, but I would think 1. 5" to 2" wide, 1/8" thick neoprene on the base of the shell where it contacts the bed rails would work much better than duct tape. You should be able to get set up with that for around $10.

John,

Before you get a cluster F*#K going on, PM me. I manufactured truck tops up here for almost 15 years. I need to get some questions answered.

Canopy help

What most places sell is open cellfom this stuff is useless as you know . Any marine place up there should have closed cell foam this works wonders for canopy leaks and if you need to seal use Sika Flex. Hope this helps you .
