Replaced Injector But Still Have Nock

I belive some one else said this but have you checked to make sure all of the hold downs for the injector lines are tight. I though i had a bad injector but it turn out to be a loose hold down.

If I knew what I was looking for, I would check them. I had a hinge for the hood loose a nut the other day, so it would not surprise me.

Each line from the fuel rail to the injector tube has a hold down bolt and clamp. Check to see if they are loose, especially 4 and 6. If left loose they can crack and leak, I found out the hard way.

I had a 2006 and I had the same problem you described to the T. The noise never went away and got worse as time went on. I had put three different sets of injectors in it with no change. I finally got so fed up with it I got an 07 5. 9l. I hope you find your problem they drive me crazy too.

I have an '06 that had a similar problem, a slight ticking that didn't jive with "normal" cummins sounds. Would get worse around 1800-2000. Took to dealer, and turned out to be injector pump gear out of alignment. They fixed it under warranty and now it's just the wonderful sound of a cummins. Mine didn't surge, though, just randomly ticked. .

OK. Checked what I believe to be the injector line hold downs. About 3/4" sized nut on injector line??? I can get to all but #2. #1 was a little loose and #6 was a little but not much. Tightened but NO change.

I've been through (1) quart of Lucas, (2) Cans of SeaFoam, and 1/2 of a 250-gallon bottle of PS. NO difference.

Paid a lot of attention today and it's worse under light throttle and "lugging". Get up to speed on interstate, let off, and then lightly back in throttle and it's horrible. (to me anyway)

I'm in the Northern Kentucky area, just south of Cincinnati. Anyone know of a dealer/mechanic close that is diesel dedicated. I'm afraid that none of the mechanics at the local dealer are diesel specialists.

Dealer says it's the CR third injection event. They reflashed the computer, but said they thought the computer might be compensating for the changes in the stock configuration. No kitty and aftermarket intake.

Has anyone had any improvement with this problem from the use of a tuner???

Tuners/boxes/chips, whatever, usually make the rattle a little worse. Reason being, many of them advance the timing which will make the engine rattle a little more.

Dam tap, rattle , clatter

I posted this on a differand site

A few weeks ago I was readng a thread about a tapping sound coming from the top of the engine. I had the same problem! :mad:So I tryed most of the sugestions,[/COLOR] use injector cleaner (4 tanks of fuel ) no change. As one of the guys said to clean the deposits from the injectios to drive it like I stole it still no help. The noise now has went from a tap to a rattle in about 1300M. Drove from Houstion TX to South AL(600+M) while there took it by the D/S they said it needed a valve adjustment. After adjusting the valves the rattle was still there they said it could be a bad injector and couldn't check it due to equipment problems. Drove back to Houston (600+M) took it by a Cummins dealer to busy to lissen to it. Drove home to South LA. (300M) now the rattle is now a clatter/knock. I have family that work for Southland Dodge in Houma LA in the race shop. So I took it there the head mechanic is the diesel diagonostic tec and checked the valves and injectors all was OK. He used a stheascope they have on the block and come back with bad news. :{The noise was coming form the wrist pin or a rod bearing. The cost for the repair was going to be around 4500. 00 to 5500. 00 if the cylinder and crank was OK. :--)Not wanting to spin that much money on an 03 truck I traded for a 08 2500 6. 7. So far I have have driven the new druck aboud 3000m and happy with it but I sure wanted to keep my 03 it was paid for. :{:{

Now I trying to find out what mod's I can do to the with out busting my

warrenty The stuff I had on the my 03 don't fit the 08

For all ya'll with engine noise tick or tap Good Luck!!!

Rawland,

I'm not trying to cast doubt on your story, but I do have a question. Did you get a second opinion? Failures on the bottom end are pretty darn rare. An injector that's causing a knock will hammer the crap out of a piston/rod, so I can see where the sound would seem to be coming from there. Metal has strange ways of conducting noise sometimes...
