I am looking for a part number for the rubber boot located in the firewall below and left of the steering column behind the pedals. The auto's have a cable running through it and the six speeds are blank with a long solid nipple on the engine side. My local dealer/parts guy has searched many times and we can't find it. We also went to the body shop to see if they were more familiar with this part and they couldn't find it either. The part is not marked in any way to identify it. Does anyone have a part number for this boot?

ME TOO!! I also have been looking for that part. After pouring over the parts manual, that part is described as:

"PLUG, Body, 1. 75 Diameter (NOT SERVICED)(Not Serviced)"

I found that in figure 48RE-1210 in the 2003 parts manual under "Controls, Gearshift [48RE]". Since it's "Not Serviced" there is NO part number associated with it. Makes no sense to me... they must order it from someone somewhere and you need a supplier part number for it. I think maybe the only way to get one would be to find out who the supplier is and ask them to sell one.

I have a printout of that page (don't ask me where I got it) and I had planned to take it into my local dealer and ask for help in ordering that part. If you have any luck please let me know because I need a new one. And if you want a copy of that page PM me.

As an side, I'm going to be in Tucson Sunday through Tuesday (10th-13th) for a conference (Tucson convention center). I could bring a copy of the page if we were to meet up...

You don't say why you're needing to replace it. If you've run other stuff through it and it's developed a leak, I'd suggest gobbing it full of silicone from the outside.

I've made a quick trip around the block looking and can't find (DC or anywhere else) such a grommet with the center filled like that one. If it's another problem and you're willin' to use silicone, try McMasterCarr (mcmaster.com) and search on grommets, rubber. There ought to be a size available in the hollow grommets to work (around the block doesn't mean I got aboard of the creeper to spec all of this out!). You might have to buy 50 of them, but they're cheap.

If either concept works for you, wear gloves, and make a neat job of it!

I want a new one because I've run no fewer than 25 wires through it now and I feel I could do a neater job now that I've learned a thing or two about better ways to route my wiring.

You would be amazed how much noise that little grommet with the filled center stops! I had a small space in it where it was open and the noise drove me nuts. I finally "fixed" it by stuffing a shop towel in it.

If I could get a new one it would be really convenient. I'd rather not silicone my wiring in place because I frequently add and subtract wires from my custom harness.
