Have any of you guys found a way to deactivate the seat belt dinger? The reason I'm asking is I ride around the farm a lot and it's driving me crazy. I don't mind wearing my seat belt when I'm on the road, but hopping in and out of the truck in the field it's a pain. I can't believe Dodge puts something so annoying on the trucks. Soon our own vehicles will be reporting any traffic violations on us.

It tells you in the operators manual how, you have to do a bunch of stuff like close your left eye while scratching your back and picking your nose with the wipers on and then honk the horn. But really it tells you how in the book it also tells you how to make it so that your doors don't lock themselves when you start to drive.

The way in the manual would not work for me after many tries. The dealers have been doing it for some of the trucks. I just use the centre belt to kill the dinger and the little red man.

The door lock thing worked pefectly for me.

I had no trouble with doing the door locks but had to do the seat belt thing a bunch of times. Finally gave up and one day the dinger quit doing its thing. Beats me, still hasn't come back on though. And the little red man stays on. I'm just going to unplug or take the bulb out.

Got mine to stop dinging using the owners manual instructions. No, It does not stop the red light on the dash. I prefer this to using the center belt pluged into my belt reciptiacal. It just makes for more work switching from the center belt to the drivers belt while on the road. I guess if you never use the drivers belt it does not mater.

When I deactivated the seat belt dinger, I read the manual also. Had a bit of trouble as the manual says to latch/unlatch the seat belt at least 3 times in so many seconds. Do the latching thing only three times. I thought if three was good, more would be better. The dang thing never turned off, I got frustrated and did it only three times and finally got it to turn off.

I noticed that on my '05 that if you drive around for a little while, the seatbelt dinger will eventually give up and quit dinging. Once it stops, it will not ding again until you kill the truck and start again; then the cycle starts over. The little red man never gave up. Note: it takes a while and a lot of patience to get the dinger to give up... the little dinger is pretty persistant.

I do a lot of farm driving too. I will try to deactivate following the instrutions in the manual when I get time. :)

Seatbelt Dinger

Went to the dealer last week to have some work done (free oil change, MPG TSB, door trim TSB) and they told me you can't turn it off. I told them there was instructions in the manual and that they weren't working for me. The jerks still persisted that it cannot be turned off. I then said that if it cannot be done then why would DC put it in the manual? The answer I got was DC does stuff like that.

I was ******. The bad attitude and "the customer is always wrong" way of thinking in that service dept. was horrible.

DON'T GO TO BAXTER DODGE SERVICE DEPT. IN OMAHA, NE!!!!!!!!!!

Sales dept is great.

Sorry... just had to vent.

PS... what is the real way to turn off the seatbelt chime???? Does the "only 3" clicks work? Thanks in advance.

On my 04. 5 the dealer could do it with the ODBIII scanner thingie heh. I tried the manual way but couldn't get it to work. But yes the dealer can do it with their $6000 tool. It is an option under the "dash mini cluster" header or something similar ... .

I did it on mine and like the guy above stated. The procedure in the book is correct except the book says "at least" three times. I've found out that it needs to be "exactly" three times.

Nick

I also turned mine off with the instructions in the Owner's Manual. I think it took me about three tries, before I got it to work. Yes "exactly" 3 times was part of the issue.

The little red light does not bother me, because most of the time I do want to be buckled up. Only when not on the road and driving do I not buckle up.

Thanks

Thanks for the help guys. When all else fails read the directions, right. Worked like a charm but it has to be exactly three times and you don't have to start the engine as the manual says just switch the ignition on. No more dinger :D I can live with the little red man.

Another way is to unplug the two wire harness under the drivers seat. Easy to get to from behind if you have a Quad cab. Than insert a jumper. I used a blade terminal. If you're really fiesty you can just cut the wires and tie them together.

Works for me.

Take that ya little red BA***RD!!!!!

Don't know if it's just a bunch of DC service BS or not, but I was told your method wouldn't work because DC thought of that and designed a specific resistance into the system, so many Ohms. If it worked for you, you may just be the lucky one.

Before I found the fix in the manual (instructions, we don't need no stinkin' instructions), I just switched the driver's and center pass. recepticles. Yeah, ya gotta drill one out to make it fit, cut some plastic, and it's not as easy to hook up, but it works. No dinger and no red jack***** on my dash. Only problem is if for some reason you move the seat all the way forward it will unplug, but that's easy to correct.

The reason it's harder to hook up the way I've got it, is because the recepticle from the center is not a plastic holder all the way down. I don't remember exactly what I had to do, but now the one for the driver is kinda loose and is easier to hook with two hands, harder to do if you're forgetful like me and already on the road.

The dealer told me you couldn't program the remote door thingie without bringing it in so they could put it on their computer on my '01. I did it by the owners manual and all was good throughout the land. Shows you what they know.

I turned the seatbelt dinger off this morning when I got to work according to the procedures in the manual (pages 44 - 45). I will find out if it worked at lunch. ;)

Sounds like BS, I put a scotch lock on the drivers side buckle harness. . no dinger and no red lamp.
