Hi guys, I know this is not very important but it is a pain in the neck to me. My seat belt light works some of the time, Now it seems to be staying on all the time! Is there a cure for this, or should I just "forget about it" ?

dude, I have the same thing, I'll be driving along and it will light up, nice red light on the dash, makes your heart skip every time. Anyone else, is there a contact that is wearing in the latch?

If it's a quad cab the switch for the light is in the belt take up reel which is in the driver seat. I've been told you have to replace it as a unit.

Funny thing, before my 2 CTD's I had two dodge half ton trucks with the 360 gas motor. Just as I was about to sell BOTH half ton trucks the light would pop on and STAY on. Looks horrible for a test drive of a possible buyer. I made me so angry on a couple times when the light would pop up for the test driver. I thought for a long time that the light was some how hooked into the computer, now I think the light has a soul and the truck didn't want to get sold. Just kidding but I know your pain. I also would get very nervous when the red light would pop on and stay on.

It's not the take up reel where the problem is. I can sit in the seat w/o the belt, light is on. Clip the belt, light is off, intermittently. Unclip, on; clip, off. Pull the belt in and out of the seat, no effect. Wiggle the buckle, light goes on and off. Whatever is making intermittent contact is in the buckle.

I've had the same problem for a year, it's been on my to do list- for now a piece of electrical tape over the light seems to do the trick. I believe the issue arrises from the box that is mounted on the floor of the pickup beneath the console. Does anybody know if that is in fact true?

NO, The timer box that you are talking about has nothing to do with the light. It runs the circuit that latches the take up reel.
