I have a new (week old) 2001 2500 4x4 and I have what I think is a problem with the seat belt reminder light. Whenever I latch my seat belt, the light goes out fine. However, with any "bump" in the road, or if any pressure is applied to withdraw it, the light comes on and then goes back out shortly. Has anyone else had this problem? Do I have any reason for concern? thanks,

Don't have an '01. But it doesn't operate the way I've seen for any seat belt for any make car (rented more than a few)I've used.

21,000 miles and have not had this problem even hitting those little bittie dips and holes in the Alaskan Highway. That would bug me to death. Hope you get some positive solutions.

I recently had a similar problem with my truck. I would buckle up, start the truck, the light would go out and then shortly it would come back on and stay on. I went for a fairly hard drive on a bumpy road and light went out and stayed out. I assume it was a bad connection. No trouble since.

GA Nightcrawler,

On our trucks (2001. 5's) that circuit is a simple circuit to ground. When you insert the buckle into the latch, it opens the circuit and the light goes out. Search on seat belt lamp and you will find some prior posts.

If you have a defective switch in the latch-side, it will have to be replaced by the dealer OR you could just disable the lamp circuit.

thanks mick, however, i've heard that the switch in the latch side controls more than the seat belt lamp (air bag deployment, retractor, etc,) Can anyone verify this? Also, I cannot find any archived posts on seat belt lamps with this new board. Thanks-

Nightcrawler, Mine has the opposite problem. If I unplug the belt while driving, the light won't come on. As far as your question about it controlling airbags, etc. according to the service tech, it does not.

Nightcrawler, I've got the same exact problem. When I fasten it, it goes out, but then comes back on unless I jiggle it a bit. But that doesn't remedy it for good. I'm thinking about taking it apart and seeing if I can fix it. I'll let you know via e-mail if it does any good.
