2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Seat Conversion Opinions Needed

The leather seats in my 98 4x4 quadcab are the most uncomfortable pieces of junk i have ever sit in. Thinking of maybe some 99 up Chevy seats. Anyone converted to any other kind of seat ? All opinions appreciated. :-{} They are electric too.

Got the exact same thing going on here also. Would Chevy TAHOE seats fit, or Escalade? I know I should be ashamed, I even thought of bolting Chevy parts on my truck. But those seats are really comfortable

Jabird, as soon as i find a good set, I'm gonna make them fit ! I,m tired of sliding toward the door and having a sore butt !

If your sliding towards the door, the foam is probably breaking down and can be easily replaced. This is actually some what common on trucks without any steps on the side as the operator tends to slide across the seat crushing the side when they get out. If you want feel really bad seats, try sitting in a Subaru for a couple of hours... :{

well almost any seat can be made to fit whatever you think is comfortable its just a matter of what options u will have when your done

When I was a teenager, I put seats from a Fiero in my 1980 F-150. It took quite a bit of fab work, but was nice when it was done.



For my money, I would have the seat foam replaced. If the leather is in bad shape, you can recover them with new fitted leather (http://www.katzkin.com or something simmilar). You will come out cheaper, retain the factory look/safety.

If you find a replacement for your seats. Let me know what you want for the old ones. (provided they are in decent shape skin wise. I will rebuild them with new foam if thats all they need. I have a neighbor who needs a new seat for his, its frame is cracked and the covers are torn. He has a 97, but I don't remember any real difference in the mounts. Color???... .

A quick fix for foam breaking down is switch the drivers bottom with the passenger side bottom. World of difference.

I would personaly love to put a set of king ranch seats in my truck. A bit pricey, but you just melt in them.

Sounds like a good way to get rid of the beer goggle dates when your judegement is impaired. If they can't keep their butts in the truck, you can't regret it in the morning. :-laf

seat replacment

Well my seat was breaking down by 30,000 miles. Kept getting very sore tendons in back of right leg. Thought it was the work that I was doing! I was about 210 lbs at that time. Shortly after I got the truck ( junk since) I / we put my 14" running boards back on this one so not to slide in.



The dollarships mech said that it just about as new!!!!!! :-{} although he was about 140 lbs. By thid time it Just out of warranty. So I had a upholstery shop put in better foam that lasted some months and back to the sore seat again so contacted the shop and they said to come in and would fix it. There analysis was that if I buy another seat they would fix it before it breaks down. A new seat was $1450. 00 ( and $210. 00 for the litttttttle cable that adjusts the seat attitude that broke at that time ) (forget it).

I phoned other places and Recaro there was no replacement seat at that time. I knew that it was a bad idea to have a seat and shoulder harness all in one. For I have a new, realtively new rancharo air ride seat for a truck that I may one day yet use. So since then I have been using 2 large towels in the seat. Not bad for a 99 do-g- that was 1 year old.

The seat in my wifes 98, seems to have air adjustable pockets in there. they are really hard to get set where the bottom section of the backbone doesn't hurt. For sure it's hard to do.
