I installed the Hot PE that a buddy of mine bought from me on his 2k 4x4 dually w/ Auto. His truck and mine are the same except for dual rear wheels and the transmission. He doesn't have any guages yet so I can't verify if he's getting the mid to upper 30's in boost pressure like mine did.

After I got through we took it for a spin and the seat o' the pants feel wasn't there like it was in my Truck. I thought that maybe the pump wire didn't connect so I told him to turn the PE off while accelerating. The pump wire was connected right because the engine lost some acceleration as soon as he turned it off. I timed hime going from 50 to 100mph and he was about 4-5seconds slower than I was, in my 5 speed.

What's the deal? He's geared 4. 10 just like mine. Is it the stock TC? Is the seat o' the pants feel less with an auto?

I heard him say a couple of weeks ago that empty he wasn't getting but 12-13MPG. He has 37,000 miles on the odo. Does he need a reflash?

He's happy with the power increase, but I'm not one bit impressed since I know what this same box did in my truck.

I need some feedback from you guys with auto's that can explain this since this is my first experience with a bombed auto.

It's very possible that the transmission is slipping---you've exceeded its limitations and need to upgrade the valve body and torque convertor---see what happens when you set the PE on the lower settings---let's us know if it's any different than the highest setting..... chris

Can't tell to much from the lowest setting. Hopefully he'll get his gauges this week.

He's been a Mopar Maniac all his life and loves nothing more than picking on GM and Fords, especially Fords. I told him to leave them alone till we get all the power to the rear tires.

I told him about the TC and valvebody upgrades. He tows a gooseneck flatbed trailer quite often. What % of TC should he get? How much is TC and VB by itself? He'll be doing the labor himself.

Could you post a link to the best place to order these upgrades for the transmission?

Thanks

You better get him some transmission upgrades, you didnt do him any favors by putting that Hot Pe in there with a stock auto, and no guages. Id check fuel pressure too, since the lift pumps are not alwasy strong enough for addtional fuel. Id leave it off, until you upgrade the trans. My 2000 couldnt even handle an EZ,it made the TC slip in lockup.

I'd check the IAT sensor. . Boost leaks etc. . He should get a lot better than 12-13. . I get 15-16 out of my 3500 4x4 and I never drive under 70. I don't have an auto but still. . that's bad by any standard. Guages will help a lot. He'll be able to to look at boost and EGT levels. If he's a mechanic he'll know what to do, I hope.

he'll loose about 15-20% when not locked up and stock through the TC so the SOP feeling won't be as noticeable. I'd try a gtech or dyno to see what power he's actually making.

All of this is from the TDR school of engineering as I don't have an auto. I would hope that he can get a lot better mileage.

Wowzy,

Good advice has been given on fuel pressure, boost leaks and yes, fluid couplings in the drivetrain do reduce rearwheel horsepower.

Also realize that an auto equipped truck may be further handicapped with smaller injectors and a different ECM. All ISB's need the timing advanced to make use of the PE's extra fuel. A timing box and decent injectors will give your buddies plenty "seat o' pants" and they are needed to make good use of a fueling box. The downside is the slip-o-matic will cry "uncle". :{ Not sure but I think the Y2K auto has a HX35 but if not the smaller turbo housing is another horsepower loss. HTH

I checked the turbo before and he has the HX35. I wouldn't have put the PE on unless it was an HX.

I already warned him about leaving it off especially when towing without gauges.

I already checked for boost leaks the old fashioned way with soapy water, but his system is ok, but I really won't be able to tell until his boost & EGT guages are installed. He was supposed to put in a new fuel filter today and we'll check his fuel pressure when he gets back. (OTR driver)

Another thing I didn't check was to see if his exhaust system is stil stock. Mine was a straight 4". Maybe his is not breathing very well.

Are the injectors different on the autos? I thought it was just the program in the ISB's.

Thanks again
