I have a 99 and the drivers seat is getting old. I took the bottom of the seat off and the metal mesh that is right under the cusion is broken. Is there anywhere i can buy just that peice? I went to Dodge and they want to sell me a new seat bottom for 1200. 00. All i need is the metal mesh.

THANK IN ADVANCE

It may sound kind of funny, but I had the same problem, and actually cut out some egg crate from an old mattress cover, stuffed it in there, then used baling wire, and rebuilt all the metal mesh wires that were broken. the seat sits alot higher, and feels alot better! Almost like new, except I did not buy the truck new, so new enough for me!

... . I just bought my 98. 5 & it had a severly collapsed driver's seat. . As it turns out, I found the exact same problem you did - the metal wires supporting the seat bottom had broken. All but 2, as a matter of fact. It was a LONG drive home in a new truck with a thrashed seat. . :(

When I got it back home, the FIRST thing I did was remove the bottom & start working on it. . it was easy - 4 10mm bolts & it popped out... I got creative with an aluminum plate and strung it up to the steel seat frame using thin cabling. I re-used the factory seat springs at the rear to suspend the whole assembly. . It is embarrassing to admit this, but it works. . The seat bottom is not collapsed & I even had to adjust the seat height *down* a bit thanks to the improved profile...

I will be looking for a more <ahem> "engineered" solution in the not too distant future. . I can't believe they (Dodge) expected that design to LIVE... ... ... .....

Check out issue 35 of the Turbo Diesel Register. Member to member pages 14a-15d. Tells you how to rebuild the seat bottoms. Good luck! :D
