Are all manual front seats for the 2nd gen trucks interchangeable? I've decided to look around for another seat rather than rebuild and recover mine. Mine's a '95--what years will fit?

Thanks

I'm in the same boat. The fabric on our '95 is not ripped, but kinda worn. But the previous owner must have weighed alot because the cushion is all compressed and mesed up and sits much lower than the passenger seat. On top of that I really don't like the looks or the feel of the 94-97 SLT seats,so I'm looking for a set of cloth ST seats. If I can't find any,I'll install leather.

One thing you have to keep in mind is that the driver seat, center console, and passenger seat frames are all riveted together. If you find a truck at a junkyard, the seats will have to come out as one whole set. You can use any front seats from a 95-97 extended cab Dodge 1500/2500/3500. They will have to be from an extended cab because the frames from a reg cab are stepped and won't bolt to your floor.

MikeR,

Did you check the individual wires underneath the Drivers bottom seat cushion?. Mine had broken over time and the abuse of offroading. I heard them break (Bionk!) several times, But didnt put 2&2 together untill I had to have the seat adjusted all the way up! I thought I was Shrinking!.

The wires are easy to replace too. I also use some Cheap-o Carpet for a Barrier between the spring wire net and the foam, because the wires were cutting into the foam bottom.

I hope this helps!.

BTW, If you reach under the cushion and can grab lose wires on the seat bottom, The wires are broken, Remove 4 bolts and the cushion comes right off!. Then just pry the plastic c-channel off of the seat frame and the foam will be exposed, Lift off the foam and you can see how the wire framing is put together.

I hope this helps too!

Doug.

I have a set of 96 Deluxe Seats for sale if anyone is interested. Good shape. e-mail me if interested. I put 99 leather/power seats in my 96 due to wife discomfort issues.

The wires under my seat cushion broke also. (WHAT did you call me??? Lard WHAT???)

I dissembled the seat as described above, removed the broken wires and springs, and cut a piece of 1/8" Lexan to fit inside the edges of the steel frame and support the foam. The Lexan has enough "give" to be comfortable and will never break.

Kodiak,

I believe that all 2nd generation seats will bolt up. I've put 2000 and 2001 Quadcab SLT Plus leather seats in several quad and standard cabs. Quadcabs have the seatbelts built in the seatback but just remove the original belts in a clubcab or standard cab to swap. Not sure how the quadcab seats adapt to a clubcab that hinges on the passenger side though. When you put late model seats in some early 2nd generation trucks the seatbelt light will stay on but is easily fixed. The nonpower seat Rams are wired for power except in the fuse box where a circuit breaker is needed. Anyone know how to wire or control the heated seats when installing in an older truck?? I havn't tried and don't have a 2001 manual. I do have a new set (front and rear) 2000 gray cloth seats that I would part with. Also I may be able to still get the heated 2001 SLT+ leather, power on both sides for an attractive price (Agate only). Give me an email if interested. ;)

98+ Seats in a 94-97

There are couple of issues in putting 98+ Seats in a 94-97. I put quad cab ones into a club cab truck. The floor plating is shaped slightly differently and 4 1" (approx) spacers are needed under front legs of seat. Additionally 2 holes in the front don't line up (but are still under seat frame). I didn't drill the truck, but rather the seats. The power seats slide as far forward as the long slider on the passenger side did before, there is just some framing in the way. It seems to me that it is just as easy to get stuff in the back. Rear seat passengers (never me in my truck) are on their own! I got the pin-outs from ALLDATA and can describe the power issues if someone needs them.

Where to Get newer Seats?

What are some sources for replace OEM seats?

Besides salvage yards.

Any price ranges to expect to pay for replacement seats.

Anyone who has went from 94-97 SLT extended cab seats to 98+ SLT (Quad Cab) seats... . are they as good or better with confort.

source for seats

I bought mine on e-bay. I like them better than manual 94-97 version. Lumbar support and 6 way power is superior (IMO) to manual.
