Sometimes when I slide out of my seat , and grab the edge of the door,. . I can get zapped pretty good on the door edge. . EEEEEKKKK!!!!!

Don,t really like getting shocked!! At night it's a bright blue arc... I could spot wild with it, so how do I take care of this, do I have to run one of these rubber straps down to the ground?

Some of us have had problems with the power seat wires, I know one of mine occasionaly grounds out on the seat, and it causes a shock. Just a thought.

I got zapped quite often by static electricity (I don't have a power seat) when exiting my truck. I've gotten into the habit of making sure one of my fingertips is touching one of the screw heads in the "cup" in the druver's door armrest as I'm getting out. No more zaps.

Ahhhhhh leather seats. The lack of getting shocked is is one of the advantages of leather seats.

Getting that shock is one of my biggest peeves about a vehicle. I could've just had a great drive and get out and, POP. Instantaneously I'm pi$$ed. Leaves a bad impression on me. I'm glad I have leather seats on the big Ram. Never get shocked, and never walk away from the truck pi$$ed.

Ram Ahead!

I get zapped when I touch the door lock button on the way out. If I touch the door frame it doen't hurt near as much. I'm getting in the habit of locking the truck with the remote to avoid the shock.

When I get out of the truck I don't touch any metal part so I don't get shocked. Just swing the door closed with the plastic grip in the arm rest.

Our problem is static electricity. Not the "power" portion of the seats. As for the seats themselves... thats a different story. They make a great insulator, causing your body to store static electricity as you move around. Then... you get out of the truck and put your foot on the ground... . ZAP!

Best way to eliminate this is to hold onto something metal... like the door itself... before your foot touches the ground. The static electricity will still pass through your body, but you've eliminated the lightning rod effect. You won't even feel it.

I wouldn't know all this except my company makes us go to ESD (electrical static discharge) classes. . because we have computer chips that are very sensitive to ESD.

Here's what I remember.

If you ask most people which of the following can kill you... most will answer #1.

1. 100,000 volts
2. 1/2 Amp

Number one is a typical shock felt by touching a door handle after walkig on carpet... in which you say ouch!

A minimum of 20K-35K volts is required for the average human to feel ESD.

50K-75K volts to see the blue ark.

The average human skin has about 50,000 volts of resistance. Moisture & humidity decreases that number rapidly.

1/2 Amp passing across your heart will kill you.

Thanks guys, for the info... On my last truck, It had a way handy, exposed screw that attached the handle to the door. . That worked fine,. . On the Dodge, no convenient screw exists, the are all recessed. . I'll have to extend 1 of the screws so I can touch it before I get out... Thanks again.

Colin

When I can't remember to touch metal, It DOES set the mood for the day!!!

I just touch my arm to the door edge after my foot hits the ground. Shock through the coat is hardly noticable. Hoping with warmer weather and more humidity it will go away. Does **** me off if I forget and touch the door lock button. NASTY spark.

Lurch's idea has worked many times for myself. When I remember, I keep my hand on the upper part of the door frame that contacts the pillar... . while stepping out.
If I forget. . that little zap reminds me real quick!

This usually happens in the Fall around here. Low humidity, north winds, non-leather seats. You get the picture. I have a few other cars, I keep one finger on the screw in the door handle when I get out. Makes you kind of gunshy.

I too use static guard, for me it ended the problem entirely. Have to spray the seat every 6 weeks or so.

I have leather, its nice, No shocks, but i almost would rather deal with getting shocked then haveing to condition my **** seats every month and stick to them in the summer, and freeze in the winter. Glad i have the seat heaters.

Maybe a wardrobe change is in order. Wearing any kind of polyester pants with cloth seats will really get you charged. #ad
My dad would get shocked real good everytime he got out of my wifes trooper, never out of the Ram with leather. He finally just carried a plastic bag in his pocket to put around his hand while exiting the Trooper. #ad
