Don, I have used Amsoil Diesel Fuel Modifier since I bought my truck in 91. They dont make this stuff any more but have split it into two products this summer. There is talk about them re-combining the formula. I hope so. I have also used MMO and 2 stroke oil mixed with the original AMSOIL D. F. M to stretch it during the summer when I really am not concerned with waxing and ice. It really make the Cummins purr. GregH

I put FPPF & MMO in my 2001. I have tried others but prefer FPPF, no water in fuel issues and better fuel economy when I use it also increased HP .

I use Diesel Kleen by Power Service. Walmart has the best prices on the gallon jug. Sometimes I'll put some 2-stroke oil instead.

Power Service "white bottle" and 2-stroke oil. Mixed a little strong on the oil side. I use 16 oz of the mix per 15 gallon of diesel or there-abouts. It's not an exact science for me.

Fuel Mix additive

In winter I run Power service grey bottle and mix in some soy cooking oil from Walmart. In summer or running down south where it is warm, soy alone at 10 oz/20 gal. Then about every 4th or 5th tank (every 10 days) will add Lucas at same ratio till the gallon is used up. Power service helps on smoke some and power. Lucas seems to make the most differance on smoke. The soy is so I always have lubrication. Been doing this now for 200k, my injector pump likes me. Read somewhere that Mr. Diesel designed the engine to run on peanut or corn oil to help the farmers. I've tried mine on pure soy and it runs just fine and smells good to, but at $4. 69/gal. a little pricey. I'll bet if we could buy it a couple hundred gallons at a time it would be cheaper than diesel. Also have noticed, never any dirty injector problems and still on the original injectors and pump has never been off.

2 stroke oil, somewhere around 1 oz per gallon. My dad started using stanadyne in his 04. 5 and gave me some to try, but I haven't yet. He says its made a noticeable improvement in his mileage.

FPPF is a brand name. I also use it as I can get it conveniently at a local truck parts store chain. They used to carry Stanadyne products but switched to FPPF. Seems to work fine I guess, but how would I really know if using additives at all really helps?

I have also used MMO at times, and I use it in the boat diesel fuel all the time.

Right now I am running some free stuff that was given to my son's shop as samples... Summitt is the name I think (don't feel like walking out to the truck to read the bottle).

they had a bottle of lucas at the fitting store yesterday so i picked that up and threw some in



i will have to try the others listed here and see for myself



makes a little less smoke with the lucas in there

I use John Deere religiously, independant tests show it a close second to the stanadyne but at half the price... . I have used the howes for about a year previously and notice less smoke but most noticable better winter starts... .

I have a 150 gal tank. I use 1/2 gal of blue marble 2 stroke oil (ashless) every 2nd or 3rd I use Stanadyne. My 01 lost the vp44 @ 90K. I only have been running this for about 15K. My 92 for about 10K. I use the same tank to fill all my trucks. I do not know if it helps the MPG or not. With ULSD now, I feel I need something. For sure in the 01. I figure extra lubricity can not hurt anything.

You guys might find the "Lubricity Additives Study Results" thread on the Third Gen. , 5. 9 Engine & Transmission forum, interesting.



This study was done by Spicer at the Dieselplace.com (Duramax) website. It's a serious study with some very interesting results. Spicer is known for doing great studies including an airfilter study for the Duramaxes. However, the "Lubricity Study" applies to all diesels.
