Security Alarm

My 03 has the security system, keyless entry with motion detector; it came with three keys. I keep a spare key in my wallet just in case I loose my keys. Well yesterday it happened, so I opened the door with my spare key and the alarm went off; I also couldn't start the truck as it disabled the ignition.



My 98 had a button that overrode the alarm system as long as the key was in the ignition; I searched for the override button and looked through the owners manual but couldn't find anything.



The question is: how do I use my spare key in emergencies?

(I later found my real keys and was able to start the truck.

Have the factory alarm sys so dont have the motion. I keep a NON-start (no chip) on the outside in case of remote battery failure or lost keys. Now you got me wondering if that key will set off the alarm if used. It shouldnt because unlocking the door(s) should disable the alarm. I also keep a chipped key inside the cab for use in driving it away. Maybe (but never read anything that says so) you need to use the chipped key to unlock?

EDIT: the "normal" key (w/o the chip) will open and disable the alarm. Just remembered that on the y2k, had a problem with the alarm sounding if I didnt turn the key FULLY to unlock the doors. It took an adjustment on the inside of the door to reset the switch so it would disable the alarm. The switch was set a little tooo far away from the lever that was supposed to trip it.

We have the KARR security system that will not allow the vehicle to be freed up to run unless the fob is used. If it detects any kind of entry from anywhere including the slider, it will allow the key to start the vehicle, but only run for 2 seconds then stop, and the led will flash. So atleast in the case of this type (in the case yours is the same) we cannot do didly without the fob in terms of moving the vehicle.
