bought a new to me late 01 truck that has the keyless entry with security system. i want to disable the security system and leave the keyless entry. i have pulled the security relay and it changed nothing is there something under the dash that can be unhooked or a fuse i see nothing marked.

Both the keyless entry function and the vehicle theft security system (VTSS) are integrated together a small computer module located under the dash called the Central Timer Module (CTM). It's not possible to selectively disable the VTSS in the CTM.

The security relay is only used to power the headlights when an alarm is tripped. You could prevent the headlights from flashing and the horn from honking when the alarm goes off by pulling the security relay and cutting the correct horn trigger wires... but the CTM would still prevent the engine from running.

Well one other ? I'm partin another 01 that has keyless and no security can I just swap the boxes and use the other remote ?

I take back what I said in my previous post...

In doing some research to answer your second question about swapping modules, I discovered that you CAN disable the vehicle security system using a Chrysler DRBIII scan tool. Here are the various functions found under the Body Control Module -> Miscellaneous BCM menu:

• Reset Customer Preferences

• Reset Module

• Reset Learned Features

• Headlamp Delay

• DRL Enable (DRL = Daytime Running Lamps)

Enable VTSS (VTSS = Vehicle Theft Security System)

• Change Country Code

• Program RKE (RKE = Remote Keyless Entry)

• Double Door Unlock

• Rolling Door Locks

• Auto Door Unlock

• Optical Horn Chirp

• Headlamp Delay Time

• Key Fob Test

• Initialize Learn Features

• Initialize VIN

• Headlamps on W/Wipers

• Fuel Gauge Update

Unless you know someone with a DRBIII you can borrow, any Chrysler dealer service department should be able to help you alter the programing.

John L.
