I have a friend looking for a used C&C. He'd prefer a 4500, but would consider 5500, 0r 3500. Plain Jane work truck, but in good working order. If anyone sees them around, please post up. He's willing to travel.

Thanks.

It will probably be very hard to find a used one that is not worn out and trashed since they are intended to be work trucks.

In the past month I've taken a couple of trips into areas with extensive oil exploration, drilling, and productioin. In each area I've seen a surprisingly large number of Ram C&Cs pulling large gooseneck flatbed tandem axle dual wheel trailers hotshotting equipment for the oil industry.

I don't think I'd want to buy a used one. My guess would be that most of those trucks will work long and hard until the next major downturn in the oil patch and then some will be retired and some will be repossessed by lenders.

It might be possible to find a very low mileage 4500 or 5500 on a dealer's lot. Some will be traded back in when the owner realizes how stiffly they are sprung. Your friend could try calling or emailing dealers wherever he is willing to travel to see if anyone has a C&C in inventory.

Harvey, I agree with everything you've recommended, and had already told him as much. I thought I'd put out a feeler here, since folks on this board are so spread out, and cover so much ground. The guy who thought it was a grocery getter and found out it rides like a buck-board is exactly what we are looking for. A worn out hot-shotter is not. My friend is an excavator and currently has an 04 2500 CTD. He pulls heavy daily, and much of it is off road, and slow going. This has led him to go through four 48REs in 170K. He is pretty fed up with the automatic. I've already explained to him the root of the failure, etc. , etc. , and, while he is disgusted, he also admits he is hard on the poor truck.

Thanks for the info!

Tom

I don't think that they still have any but have him check with Landers Dodge in Memphis. Back in Nov. they had a couple demo trucks that they had been haulling to shows.
