I'm trying to weigh my option's of selling my '01, which I've spent alot of money on, to buy a stock '03 extra cab short bed cummin's. My truck is in good shape with 170k mile's, and the '03 has 90k. I heard the guy need's money bad and would probably take $13 or $14. Is that a good deal and is it worth the hassle of trying to sell my truck during a bad economy? My truck is paid for! I love my truck, but I'd love to have a newer one. I just don't know if it's worth it. With out seeing my truck, and all I have done to it, what would I realistically get for it? Thank's for any help in this decission!

I'd hang on to yours. The last thing you want right now is to be making payments on one truck, while another sits unused in the driveway because you can't get rid of it. I'm not sure what you could get for yours right now, but the market for trucks in general isn't too good right now.

I had an 04' that I traded to a friend for his 01' that had 105k so I could upgrade my horse trailer to a living quarters

I've put in a VP44, shocks, the fass, edge, goerend transmission, dss steering brace and new paint. I like you have struggled not upgrading with these prices.

I've spent about $9k on this truck and all it needs is some steering work. Wholesale on my truck is about $8k and I might find someone to give me $10k because it is "really slick" with 175k on it now.

I keep going back to I knhow what I have and it's paid for. Although 2nd gen's have issues (mainly steering once you address the fuel pump on the VP44's) so do the 3rd gen's. There are numerous posts about their steering problems and there's really not that much more room. I would also have the same transmission issues.

After a long time considering options I'm keeping my "paid for" 01' in this economy and not take on any one else's problems or start spending money to get a 3rd gen with all the cool things my 2nd gen has.

IT IS HARD TO DO THOUGH!!!!

Good luck with your decision.

In the same boat. I have a 02 shortbed auto and I've passed up half a dozen good deals on 04-06 longbeds with a stick because it just isn't worth it right now for me.

Right now the market for diesel rigs here in Reno is nothing. I could have bought 2 or 3 decent rigs for less than 9K in the last month. Several for less than 8K that were pretty beat.

I keep going back and forth, but right now I want to buy land when the market hits bottom, so I need to save for that eventuality, rather than buy another stupid truck that I only get to drive once or twice a month.

Beach,

Hope I don't rain on your parade but I agree with the others. If I were in your shoes, I would keep your current truck and enjoy it. Although I enjoy my 3rd Gen, I really really miss my 2nd Gen. I bought a 1st Gen though so I could hear clatter again ;):-laf

IMHO, I think the 2nd Gens have the most comfortable seats also. Good Luck!

In April of 2007, I sold my '01 regular cab and purchased a 2007 5. 9L quad. I was very fortunate and found a purchaser who understood what the '01 was and I received what I consider a very good price for it. Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't have made the move. I love the '07, especially having the Quad Cab for the family, but the move just wasn't worth the money I invested in it.

Hind sight being 20/20, I would have kept the '01 which was perfectly suited for what I was using it for, and purchased a used Suburban or equivalent to use as a family vehicle.

Thank's for the reply's!

I got to see the truck today, and as nice as it is, I would have to agree with you, the newer sheet metal isn't worth all the upgrades I've done, and the fact that I know my truck almost inside and out! My buddy was putting new u-joint's in the axle shaft's on the '03 for the guy when I went to look at it. I appreciate the help in this decision. I guess now I don't have to go through buyer's remorse!:-laf Thank's again!
