Sell 2005? 2018 or wait for 2019?

I'm strongly considering selling my 2005 QC 4wd and purchase a new truck. I'm still not sure what to do. My current truck has 161k miles and I know it front to back and have maintained it above and beyond any maintenance schedule.

My main question is, if I decide to sell and buy a new truck should I try and get a 2018 now or wait and order a 2019?

If there’s a 2018 on a lot that you like, one can go that route.
As best I can tell, the 2018 MY order bank closed August 17, 2018.
The 2019 order bank doesn’t open until November 9, 2018.
2019 MY production starts January 2, 2019.

I ordered an 18 about 6 weeks ago. I was more interested in getting it before the end of the year for tax reasons, but waiting for a 19 wasn't that high on my list. I looked all over at stock trucks but most had equipment I didn't really want. So I ordered a Laramie just the way I wanted it. At first it was going to get built at the end of December but the latest ship date is November 1.

I would not buy a 1st year production vehicle; too many bugs and finale details to work out. I'd get the current Ram if I needed a truck right away.

I'm with you on this, I bought the 1st year 2003 and 13, both trucks have been error free, Cummins has R&D here, I do have connections, weather Ram Jumps to the Next Gen Cummins remains unanswered, IMO its coming W/O EGR and I will wait it out. NON-EGR will be worth the wait, In addition New Power plants are coming. The 2500 may have 2 options for Diesel and Trans. My guess 2020 or late 19

No, FCA is spending Billions$ in future development, factories, Transmissions, Power plants, Etc , something (New) big has to be coming IMO.

Carousel Auto group is spending 18+ Million at just 1 Dealership for future expansion. This new state of the art building was directed By FCA, I'm at a loss why the Pohlads (Billionaires) would drop that much coin on current sales.

After so many dealers got burned being conned into building dedicated Fiat stores, and losing their backsides, I am surprised anyone would take that plunge.

Denny Hecker bankrupted Chrysler financial, back in 2004-8 to the tune of 525 Million, at the Same time Chrysler Auto's capital was diverting to Daimler. That atmosphere is gone now. The Auto business is a nose bleed, but if your not going forward you will be left behind.

The Pohlads Are Billionaires , I know Bob Pohlad enough to know He wouldn't be expanding if the numbers could not pencil out.

Is there any REAL statistics to back up this 1st year production stuff. I had the early 99 Superduty, couldn't ask for a better truck, it was first year, bought new. We currently have a 2013 Ford Escape first year production, same bought new, now at 60K not an issue. Knock on wood !!

There are thousands upon thousands of these so called 1st year production vehicles on the road, I'm sure there are issues, my 2014 Ram has had its share , at least in recalls , not much otherwise , but what is it second year production change. I think the list goes on .

The rear air ride was supposed to come out in MY 2014 but did not until 2015. I have the first year with my 15 and i am at 60k with ZERO issues.

First year production on these modern cars, and trucks the engineering , and so forth, IMO another one of those urban legends, with nothing to back it up. I have had ten recalls. Lets take the T-05 recall ,and a certain member who thinks they know what should be done on the thousands that have been done, and done successfully , and thats how that kind of nonsense gets started.

My truck is a better truck today because of the 10 recalls, and was it the growing pains of the first two or three years of the new generation production, maybe. No way I would stay away from the new generation Ram trucks, some recalls, maybe . But the glitches would be resolved . I think its crazy we keep hearing stay away from a first year production , with not one bit of real statistics to back it up .

I broke down and bought a 2018 Big Horn. Looks like my 2005 will be hitting the classifieds in the next month or so.
