You need to look no further than the "first year" Oldsmobile 5.7 diesel that lacked even a WIF light, and then we start a list of epic failures over the years that OEM refuse to fix because it's cheaper to ignore you or in the case of fuel tanks Ford Pinto, side saddle tanks, Jeeps included, buy your next of kin off. Ignition switches and airbags that kill ran so long it's not a first year problem.
Even with lemon laws on the books from the Olds 5.7 diesel you have to ask yourself if the risk of the first year is right for you.
Let me hit home: the early emmisions 6.7 Cummins just wasn't ready for production. Having ignored GM's early emmisions LLY overheater EGR and 1st year variable turbo, yeah being passed by a 1993 Dodge Cummins was filmed by a LLY owner as his truck overheated and came to a stop...
So not only is first year risky, the OEM's may improve laters years, but you are completely screwed because the OEM's, due to cost, don't retrofit older years unless they have to.
