i am going to be in the market for a 12v 3500 4x4 soon what year should i get that would be best for bombing. what problems should i be watching for.

i am 12v ignorant!

IMHO I would look for a '98 12V. The '98 has the newer style interior(what was used through '02 model) and the newer style mirror, plus the possibility of a quad cab( if you want/need it).

Not to forget better brakes than the '96, and all the other little improvements. I do love my '96, but am shopping for a 325/600, which will remain STOCK! Probably. :) I too vote for the '98.

Greg

U sure you don't want a 2500 4x4 regular cab with a full billet/race DTT auto (amongst other things... )?

I know someone that would sell his truck so that he could get a 3rd Gen. :D

Matt

Matt waffled:

I know someone that would sell his truck so that he could get a 3rd Gen.

Now wait a minute young man, I thought the older and wiser amongst us (myself not include - being older but NONE the wiser) had throughly convinced you to be patient and do the responsible thing. Like wait until after you are married, the kids are through college, the house paid for, and the retirement nest egg secured BEFORE venturing forth into the land of 3Gen. tsk tsk  :D

I know lets start a "When is Matt going to cave pool":-laf :-laf :-laf

get a '96-98. they've got the good pumps. be wary of oil leaks at the front of the engine. I would remove the fan idler and checked for a cracked timing case. and the FIRST thing I did after I got it home would be to pull the cover, locktite the case bolts, and tab the KDP!

Forrest

My first cummins was my 01. Next had to be a 12v. A freind of mine has a 03 and if he had to do it again he would have a 12v too LONG LIVE THE 12V. :D

I plan on selling my baby this coming Spring. It only has 88K on the odometer but the new 325/600 finally looks good enough to make me upgrade. I hope I'm not sorry later. I really don't NEED a new truck, I just WANT a new one. Whoever gets my truck will have a really good truck that is solid and reliable.

I love the old trucks, back in the fall I had gotten goofy and thought I wanted a new one. We test drove a bunch and after all was said and done, both my wife and kid said I would be stupid to trade the old one off. They preferred the ride, and looks of the older Dodge over the new. We stayed with our old one.

Since when is being patient and responsible any fun?! :-laf

I'm glad you guys find my pain amusing. It literally is painful to me to realize how nice the 3rd Gens are... and how badly I want one.

Matt - STILL drooling over the 3rd Gens.

"When will Matt Cave???"

Gee, I'm thinking of starting a when will Matt Cave thread in the 3rd Gen forum... But I think Matt should start the thread himself!

I'm gonna say 12 months, he'll be ordering.

He's gonna sell the '94, stash the cash and add to it for a while an when he just CAN'T handle having nothing to drive other than the v-dub, he'll be drooling allll over a salesman's desk placing the order - and paying NO MORE than invoice less available rebates!

:D
