Cuba To Buy Car

I know, this is a truck site. If anyone knows of a friend or whatever who has a 70-74 Cuda/Barracuda who would be interested in a shaker set up, send them my way.

I went out and bought all the stuff I needed to make a shaker set up on a 70-74 Cuda. I bought all this last fall and spent all winter putting it together, cutting, trimming, filing and painting... being picky about how it looks. Here is what I have with what it cost new last fall.

Shaker Hood, fiberglass from AAR in Florida... ..... $900

New hood hinge springs for fiberglass AAR Cuda/TA Challenger... ... $60

70-74 Cuda hood pin support brackets... ... ... $85

Hood pin kit... ... $65

Shaker bubble... ... $290

Shaker scoop grilles... ... $280

'Cuda 340 shaker scoop badges... . $30

Shaker baseplate..... $75

Shaker center baseplate 4bbl... ... $70

Shaker baseplate seal... ... $90

The special textured argent silver paint for the bubble cost about $30 for a pint to run through a paint gun.

All of this is assembled, and believe me it was a long drawn out job to get those grilles in that bubble correctly. They send you a bubble that you have to custom file to get everything to fit. The holes for the badges on the side are dead nuts on perfect. I can leave the 'Cuda340 badges in, or remove them.

I am going to race the car in NHRA Stock class, therefor the shaker stuff is of no use to me unless I want to put it on my wife's 71, and I am keeping it as OEM as possible for her. I plan on putting the complete bubble (baseplates and everything) on ebay, and putting the hood with the hood pin hardware on ebay also. As you can see there is almost $2000 worth of hardware here... . if you bought it last fall... Year 1/Paddock prices go up at least twice a year. The amount of time you would have making that bubble appear correct is simply a question of what is your time worth to you. It took me over 3 months of work. I want to get $1500 for everything. A guy at the Mopar Nats was selling a complete kit for $3800. All I want is $1500, and I think that is more than fair considering the time put into it. I saw just a bubble that was done up (painted, with all holes drilled in correct spots, grille holes correct etc. ) without the grilles, bubble only sell for $500 on ebay.

If you are interested, let me know. I plan on trying eBay out later this week/weekend, or early next week. If you are interested, email me back and I will find a Polaroid and scan some pics for you to see yourself, or if you are close and want to see it first hand, I live in Central Indiana. If you have any questions, I check my email several times a day. Thanks.

Gee Chad,

It seems like a waste to accumulate all those goodies, then sell them. Might there be another Cuda in your future?

Wish I had kept my '70 440-6pack Cuda. Loved the "shaker scoop", blazing the tires at 40mph,... . hated the 5-8 mpg. Sold mine in '79, still kicking myself.

I had the 340 emblems on mine. (suprized the heck outta a lot-o Cameros and Mustangs back in the late '70s. )

Hey Chad,,Why the sale on the hood??,,If the engine combo is in the 70-71 340/383/440 combo any carbs the shaker is legal as they were an option on all of the cars(except the AAR 340/6 bbl, only glass is legal),,Also check with NHRA as with the 440/6 bbl combo in Superstock you may run the AAR hood,,Allen Dahme got it legalized a few years ago and if its legal in SS its got to be a done deal in stock ,,Now if the hood is glass as you say than thats a different egg,,It needs to be a steel hood,,A factory combo will bring some rather large change, but,if the shaker is what you want why ditch the effort??,,You already have most of the hard parts and there is a few guys making the steel hoods from flat ones,,I'll see if I can get the businesses name out here that does that and also makes the gilled fenders too,,What engine combo and class you seeking to run in??,,Let me know... .

Well, the shaker would have been used on our 71, but the wife wasnt too fond of it, and since I am doing the car for her, I have to let her have some say in what it looks like (I know... we had a 99 C5 Corvette that she hated to drive because she was afraid it would get messed up, so she drives a S10 blazer now and loves it. Woman... . dont try to understand them, or change them). I cant use it since the Cuda I want to run in NHRA is a 72.

The aftermarket shaker stuff is starting to grow strong. I figured I might as well sell it while I can get decent money out of it before someone comes along and starts mass producing them for a dime a dozzen. Besides, I sure could use the $$$ to fund the interior resto I wasnt planning on starting until next summer.
