I know, this is a truck site. If anyone knows of a friend or whatever who has a 70-74 Cuda/Barracuda who would be interested in a shaker set up, send them my way.
I went out and bought all the stuff I needed to make a shaker set up on a 70-74 Cuda. I bought all this last fall and spent all winter putting it together, cutting, trimming, filing and painting... being picky about how it looks. Here is what I have with what it cost new last fall.
Shaker Hood, fiberglass from AAR in Florida... ..... $900
New hood hinge springs for fiberglass AAR Cuda/TA Challenger... ... $60
70-74 Cuda hood pin support brackets... ... ... $85
Hood pin kit... ... $65
Shaker bubble... ... $290
Shaker scoop grilles... ... $280
'Cuda 340 shaker scoop badges... . $30
Shaker baseplate..... $75
Shaker center baseplate 4bbl... ... $70
Shaker baseplate seal... ... $90
The special textured argent silver paint for the bubble cost about $30 for a pint to run through a paint gun.
All of this is assembled, and believe me it was a long drawn out job to get those grilles in that bubble correctly. They send you a bubble that you have to custom file to get everything to fit. The holes for the badges on the side are dead nuts on perfect. I can leave the 'Cuda340 badges in, or remove them.
I am going to race the car in NHRA Stock class, therefor the shaker stuff is of no use to me unless I want to put it on my wife's 71, and I am keeping it as OEM as possible for her. I plan on putting the complete bubble (baseplates and everything) on ebay, and putting the hood with the hood pin hardware on ebay also. As you can see there is almost $2000 worth of hardware here... . if you bought it last fall... Year 1/Paddock prices go up at least twice a year. The amount of time you would have making that bubble appear correct is simply a question of what is your time worth to you. It took me over 3 months of work. I want to get $1500 for everything. A guy at the Mopar Nats was selling a complete kit for $3800. All I want is $1500, and I think that is more than fair considering the time put into it. I saw just a bubble that was done up (painted, with all holes drilled in correct spots, grille holes correct etc. ) without the grilles, bubble only sell for $500 on ebay.
If you are interested, let me know. I plan on trying eBay out later this week/weekend, or early next week. If you are interested, email me back and I will find a Polaroid and scan some pics for you to see yourself, or if you are close and want to see it first hand, I live in Central Indiana. If you have any questions, I check my email several times a day. Thanks.
