Dear Abby

Trying to raise BOMBing cash. Considering selling a Colt SS Gold Cup . 45 that I haven't fired in over a year. If I sell to an individual, can the pistol be mailed to the new owner? Any 'issues' to avoid? If there are none, I may list it in the classifieds. If there are issues, I'll sell it locally in the newspaper classifieds.

I can't believe I'm even considering it. THE DTT upgrade is calling my name :D

I'd recommend shipping it from an FFL holder (federal firearms license) in your state to an FFL holder in the buyers state. I used to buy/sell guns on ebay when they still allowed it and that's how I handled all the transactions there. Doing it that way you are sure that the transfer has been recorded and that the person is legal to buy in the state they are in. JMHO

If you ship it out of your home state it MUST be through an FFL PERIOD. Your home state may require that instate transfers are through an FFL as well. Unless I can meet face to face it goes through an FFL no matter what. There are SERIOUS felony penalties for screwing up where guns are concerned, be careful and do your homework.

Shipping out of state through an FFL is no big deal, typically costs $25-35, and takes 10 minutes of your time. ALL liability on your part is gone, and your market opens up tremendously. Buyers usually pay the shipping anyway, which will take all costs to you out.

I absolutely despise the fact that guns are regulated, but you better CYA.

Excellent advice, thanks...

I'll take your advice and ship through FFL dealer or face to face.

SDALTON, you have a PM.
