Been lurking quite some time now,

I have some questions about the 6. 7 that I would like to ask the educated populatin out there. ( where better then here right)

Ok, I need something new, and heck when I do something I realy do it. I took an '08 6 speed manual out for a test drive and loved it. (Have not yet drove the auto)

Most of my driving will be to and from work, I hope in the future to pick up a slide in camper. Until then it's just going to tow my jeep/trailer to moab and back. 7K pounds jeep/trailer combo.

Im still up in the air with the manual or auto, Im leaning manual because it's a proven item. (and fun to drive) Im still not sure dodge has an acceptable transmission but i could be wrong... But still I doube right now that i will EVER realy tax the truck to it's limits or even close. Opinions... . ??

another question I have is the fueling, Should I still invest in a FASS system? or has the majority of the issues gone away with the new common rail?

Truck im currently having spec'd out at Dave Smith it the folowing

'08 4 door LB, 4X4, Slate gray laramie, loaded. I plan on having this truck for a LONG time.

Thanks for any info you can give, I went thru 12 pages on here. Seems there is still some things to work out on the 6. 7. but honestly im putting faith im cummins that they engineered another quality and proven engine.

3K mile oil changes and crappy fuel milage... ...

I'm very happy with my '07 3500 C&C. It has the 6spd. manual. I have not driven an auto, but from all of the posts I've read it is a very good unit. It boils down to personal choice. You shouldn't need to modify the fuel system unless you start bombing the truck.

My 6. 7ltr has been a great truck. I had several p245a codes at first but the latest rounds of flashes seem to have taken care of that. My oil change indicator has never come on before 5,000 miles. I installed the fs-2500 hoping to improve on that. Itraded an 04 6-speed man. for this truck with the 68rfe and I am so glad I didn't go back with the handshaker. I have not heard anybody say there getting better fuel economy with a manual trans. I have about 20,000 miles on my truck purchased 5-22-07 and I am avg about 14. 4 mpg all types of driving. I just installed an afe stage 2 intake mega cannon with the pro-guard 7 filter. I have not gave it an honest test yet(I like the sound of the turbo whislte and eb sound) but it looks like I might have gained a min of . 5 mpg. Only 1 full tank of fuel so far. IMO drive the auto before you do anything and play with shifter and eb.

It's hard to think auto! always heard stories about how bad the auto is in our CTD. It's honestly hard for me to think it's ok for the auto now. Im almost afraid to get one due to my friends critisizing me for it LOL. either an auto with 3. 73's ot the manual with 3. 42's

I heard the stories about the Dodge trannys for the 10+ yrs I drove my 97 auto. In 2000 put Banks Power Pac and exhaust brake on and left the brake on all the time. Never had tanny issues. Got a DTT rebuild in Jan 06 and really liked the improvment in driveability. Most noticed in around town driving.

Made the mistake of looking at Carson Dodge, just to see if 07 were available. Nothing I like but did find an 08. Took for a drive and tried to hide smile. Wife said I deserved a new truck, signed the papers then let smile loose. The 6 speed auto works great, shifting is firm and the TC is lots tighter than the stock 47re, close to DTTs TC. Overall driveability out of the box is great, spent lots to get the 97 to drive like I wanted, and the Tow/Haul, Ebrake and cruise work great together.

First tank overhead said 14. 8 mpg and hand calculated was 13. 9. Took first trip, about 320 miles. Overhead said 20. 6 and hand calc was 18. 5 mpg. Never went much over 70 and did go on I80 to Sacramento area and back.

Yes, there are lots of stories out there, like 'Ford owns Cummins'. Most of the people who told me that also said Dodge autos were 'junk'. Weren't perfect and needed help to make stronger, but in my opinion not junk.

I now have an 07. 5 Big Horn. Have driven both standard and auto and have to say, I like this auto! It can be driven as a standard and the Exhaust brake in the Tow/Haul mode is great.

Hmmm, well the local dealer does have an auto in stock built the way I want it. and it's at a killer price. Actualy hard to find a loaded SLT manual in slate gray.

Overhead said 20. 6 and hand calc was 18. 5 mpg.

HMM... . Somehow I find this hard to belive. Lets take a vote, all those that get that kind of milage chime in and lets hear your numbers. All the rest with milage like mine 13. 6 on overhead, 65mph for 176 miles and hand calculated at 12. 7, lets hear those numbers also.

I would apreciate it if we kept this on topic. There are plent other threads bickering about fuel milage.

Im going down to the dealer tomorrow to test drive an auto. If I like it then I just might get it. I hope it's night and day from the previous dodge auto's.

I went back and forth between the manual and the auto. I drove both of them and the auto is sweet. The clincher for me was the fact that with the auto and the 3. 73 gears, at 1700 rpm, the truck is traveling at about 69 mph.

Even with the new 3. 42 rears, the manual at the same 1700 rpm is going about five mile per hour slower.

Having said that, I'm hoping that will translate into a bit better mileage.

I ordered mine a couple of weeks ago and I'm told it's in transit somewhere.

It's a 2008 2500 Laramie, Quad Cab, eight foot bed, Inferno Red with the Khaki lower paint stripe and Khaki interior, limited slip differential, cab lights, extendable mirrors, under the rail bed liner, tow package, protection group, chrome deflector, etc... .

My only issue now is what to do with my 93?

Whichever you decide, keep us posted and good luck.

John

In my opinion, there isnt anything wrong with the Dodge autos; the earlier ones mmm... . maybe but even they really arent that bad when the engine is fairly stock. The 48re and 68rfe are really pretty good I think, my 48re has taken alot of abuse and keeps on going, although the converter does slip now, but thats expected when power is increased. Ill put the new ones up against an Allison or Torqueshift any day...

6. 7L and 68RFE = 350/650 #ad

6. 7L and G56 = 350/610 #ad

I just came from a 2003 RAM 2500 305/555 and NV5600.

I don't miss shifting at all.

BBjorn, if you do get serious about buying it would be worth your time to talk to Dishman Dodge in Spokane. Tell 'em your a TDR member, there's been a lot of TDR members by from Dishman, flying in from all over the US. The contact for TDR member sales was Adam Macomber but I'm not sure if he's still the one (can someone update me on this?).

Couldn't be happier with my 68RFE. With the trans brake, tow/haul mode and manual shift capability why by a stick unless you just want to... Besides there's the extra 40lb of TQ too... .

well thanks for all the input guy's Wednesday I went and picked up an '08 6. 7 auto, 4 door, long bed, 4x4 loaded SLT in the mineral gray.

this is one sweet truck! Now it's time for the bombs,
