Found this in my local newspaper---------------Kennedy calls for higher limits----------- Citing American humanitartan obligations,Sen Edward M. Kennedy urged the Bush administration to increse refugee admissins for 2003 aboved 70,000 level. Kennedy,D-Mass. , comented in a statement after he discussed refugee admissions with Secretary of the Senate Colin Powell. Kennedy is a member of the Judiciary Committee, which monitors refugee policy. Powell also met with members of the House Judiciary Committee. Although the adminisstration had recommended that 70,000 refugees be admitted during the 2002 year only 27,000 refuees were actually admitted, partially because of bottlenecks caused by more stringent security requirements imposed after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. There also was a sharp drop in the number of refugees admitted from Afghanistan. Many Afgans slated for resettlement in the United States instead were able to safely return to their country after the U. S. forces drove the Taliban rulers from power last November. Kennedy said the administration " MUST find ways to restore refugee admission levels and idenitify the most vulnerable refugee populations. " Another problem ,he said, is that the goverment often does not reach its - admissions target - A combined total of 106,000 refugees could have been admitted over the past decade but weren't,he said. A State Department paper on proposed 2003 admissions said that ,in addition to new security requirements, the total for 2002 was brought down by fraud or misrepresentation. ------------ Now I was just wondering, was those terrorist that flew those planes into the twin towers classified as refugees????????????????

As a person who is now a minority in my own born/raised home town... . I say we close the boarders and kick them all out. Sure, it sounds like Nazi Germany, but it would solve our problems here on home soil.

Refugee

Since a refugee is supposed to be someone fleeing from his/her own country to seek refuge elsewhere as in time of war, persecution, etc. then I don't think the parasites who flew the planes into the WTC and the ground in Pa. could be classified as refugees as they were all Saudis as I understand it. They were in the country on student or visitors visa which is probably how some refugees enter. And I am of the some opinion of T. Kennedy as above. bg

Ted is just looking for voters...

Good ol' Ted is just trying to keep the democrat's base of voters as large as possible. Bring in lots of refugees'/immigrants( use which ever term you are most comfortable with), put them on a goverment handout program and you have a democrat vote come election time.

Guys, guys, guys, I say we should be civil about this, and reach a comprimise. :D

We let all the illegals move here that wants to, however they all live in a 50 mile radius on the Honorable Senator Kennedy. "D

I'd go for that.

What happened to George Bush's immigration amnesty for thousands of illegal Latin Americans? Anyone have an update? Bush is popular among Latinos in some parts of the U. S. How would his amnesty program contribute to the Republican power base?

Don't forget that your "hero" Bill Clinton did the same thing.

Thanks for setting the record straight. I initially gave George Bush credit for a fresh idea.

Wayno, Camara, BCFast, Patriot, B. G. Smith, Ram4Sam, FatCat, me4osu,

Do any of you know about the progress of Bush's amnesty program? I am very impressed with how well informed you are about immigration issues. Please provide some insight for those of us who lack your incredible wealth of knowledge.

whatever

("Please provide some insight for those of us who lack your increditable wealth of knowledge") Sorry I can't give you a more detailed update on the immigrant amnesty issue at this time but let's just say for now, every time I go to Wall-Mart the aisles are filled with latinos. bg

As expected....

Thank you Lhotka for the classic liberal response. Ignore what the thread is about, change the subject and attack a Republican, and then start the personal attacks on us. Right out of the liberal handbook, second chapter isn't it?

Why don't you enlighten us with your "increditable" knowledge of why we need to raise the quotas back up if what I said is not true as to the good senator's motivation.

Sam

Good old Ronald Reagan is the real one to blame for over-immigration. After his amnesty program went though the Hispanic school enrollment where I lived in Washington went from less than 1% to 76% in two years.

I thought the issue was immigration? Sorry if I focused on immigration rather than joining in on the personal attacks of Senator Kennedy. Inquiring about Bush's immigration policy is a personal attack on Rebublicans? Wow, now thats a stretch! My response and questions were directed to immigration. Do a bit of reading and review my post. My response wasn't a personal attack, but a compliment on how knowledgeable you guys are. By the way, what is Bush's position on IMMIGRATION AMNESTY?;)

I am giving you an opportunity to make a distinction between Kennedy and Bush's policy.

My personal interpretation would be: Not Much. They are both politicians, and ALL politicians' actions are motivated by gathering votes.

Why are you so worried about immigration? I haven't heard of huge crowds of Canadians trying to sneak into Alaska. :-laf :-laf

Earth to Lohtka!

"I am giving you an opportunity to make a distinction between Kennedy and Bush's policy. "

Big difference here. One deals with new immigration quotas. Sure, the number of people let in is way down. The reasons are in the first post, new security measures, fraud/misrepresentation. But your hero Ted doesn't care about these things, all he wants is the numbers to go back up, get more people on gov't programs, to get more votes. I said this before and you won't say I'm wrong, you just change the subject. Your silence on this tells me I'm not.

You keep bringing up Bush's amnesty policies. Different subject. While I'm no expert on this, Immigration amnesty deals with people allready here illegally and what to do with them. Your buddy Ted allready has most of their votes.

Sam(Republican,conservative and happy!)
