About a week or two ago I pulled my IAT sensor to clean it and the contacts. My truck at the time had about 32,000 miles on it, I thought the sensor might look a little black but it didn't. It was a little brown  , looked really clean but slightly burnt brown. Is this normal for a truck with no exhaust brake or fueling bombs ???

After spraying some carb cleaner on the IAT, I cleaned the contacts and covered them in di-electric grease. Put it back in and everything works as it should. I am just wondering if I'm running a little hot ?? EGT's are always in check.

Also is it possible to pull and clean the MAP sensor in the same fashion ? Or do you just clean and grease the contacts ?

Jeff

Yes you can clean the MAP sensor the same way. I have done this twice (cleaning IAT and MAP) and have not ever noticed any difference in the way she runs. But, hey, if it makes you happy doing it, knock yourself out.

Just my $. 02.

I care to disagree with you. In talking to Harry up at PDR he said that you should be cleaned at least every 6 months. Even more if you have a EX-brake and or run a K-N type air filter. BTW I run both:D

OK... how does one go about doing this??

You need a different socket. I think it`s 1 1/4 deep set. I`m not sure but somebody`ll correct me if I`m wrong.

Cleaned my IAT sensor this week. Requires a 22mm deep well socket. I found it much easier to accomplish with the engine oil dipstick unhooked from the air horn, and I also removed the 2 10 mm bolts holding the fuel filter housing and moved it out of the way.

Being right handed, I also sprawled out across the valve cover.

Matt

Spawling out across the valve cover is not an option for me as I would likely break something:eek:

I'll get it off of there somehow... thanks for the suggestions

MY '02 took a 13/16 deep well socket for the IAT sensor. What I like to do is get some old shirts or something to use for padding, and put my left knee on the valve cover next to the oil fill, and my right knee on the frame in front of the intercooler. Then if you need both hands use a towel or another shirt to rest your head on the cowl.

P. S. That's also my prefered position for LP replacement :) .

I tried to get at this thing yesterday, the MAP sensor is a piece of cake, the IAT sensor... I can't even begin to get my arm back there far enough to get at disconnecting the electrical connection much less trying to get a socket on the nut!

I don't want to have to take 1/2 my motor apart to clean this thing... . I had my considerable bulk up there in ways I didn't think I could bend anymore, no luck.

I ain't giving up just yet... May have to have my son reach back there and disconnect the plug and slip on the socket.

Map Sensor Cleaning

Has anyone noticed any difference in cold starting after cleaning the map sensor?

How much of a role dose the map sensor plays in starting?

I have a hard start problem that gets worse at high altitude and I am suspecting the map sensor. I get a flooded condition and I am sure it is overfueling.

I have checked or replaced every thing else except it and the injector pump.

I got a P0071 code with a companion P1693 last week and I pulled the IAT sensor after disconnecting the batteries to clean it. I also had a Check Engine Light.

After cleaning a really dirty IAT and reconnecting the batteries no more Check Engine Light and no codes. Went and picked up a cord of firewood with the trailer and she ran great and on about a 50 mile trip. I did not get any new codes set or a check engine light.

I guess that when this thing gets crudded up bad enough it can set a code.

If any one has any more info please chime in.
