Does anyone know if the O ring needs to be swapped to a new Crank position sensor when installing a new one? I purchased one from ROKK technologies, but the install instructions do not indicate that part. Help! the truck is taken apart and I am leaving on vac tomorrow! Sarge

I don't know for sure, but if the new unit doesn't include an O-ring and there's an o-ring on the old sensor, then you should use it on the new sensor.

Thanks, I just taked to Paul, and Clock doc is right. The O ring is deleted. I just put it in and went for a very short run to the store. It does feel like the responsiveness has improved. But tomorrow will be the real test, when I pull out on the first leg of my vac, since the wife has put almost everything she owns in the rig...

:D

My wife does the same thing - it "all" goes in the camper - and we use about 1/4 of it when we go!

My modified sensor should be getting here any day now - sent a new one to them Friday... . and, we're leaving for our vacation in early Sept. Oo.

i was interested in getting the sensor [or buying a new sensor and modifying it myself] but it is/was much cheaper to "clock" the tone wheel on the crankshaft... 30lbs + 60° is hard to get under there especially when you start to rotate the engine a bit...

and when i ever need to change a belt, the tensioner is so much easier to back off from under the truck than from up top. .

Are you sayin ya loosened the notched wheel that the sensor picks up the signal from and rotated it 60 degrees?

no, 30lbs/ft + 60° is the torque value for the crankshaft dampner. . there is about ±0. 5° freeplay in the tone wheel with the dowel hole stock, and with modified dowel hole, you can rotate it about 2° before the 4 bolt touch the edges of the holes in the tone wheel.

Well, after the first day of travel I have been pleasantly surprised. Here is a twist that I didn't expect though. I have an EZ with the 3 position switch. I towed the first 100 miles on the low setting, and it felt good. About half way there I switched to the mid power setting. I didn't notice a significant power increase, but the EGT's jumped. I could easily hit 1400*. I backed it off to the low power setting and the EGT's dropped to about 1200*. (These numbers were achieved on some MAJOR grades going up I-8 in San Diego county. ) On the flats the EGT's were noticibly lower than I am used to seeing. I also noted that the rig was pulling strong with less boost required. I am hoping that this means better fuel mileage. I will post when I figure that out. I am tempted to unplug the EZ and test the pulling power. What do you guys think?? Could the sensor make that big of a difference? And by the way, there has been no knocking what so ever. Sarge

Sarge,

I know that there was some stipulation on rokktech's website about using the sensor with aftermarket boxes... . just can't remember what that was... it may have been regarding aftermarket boxes that change the timing only... .

I'm eagerly awaiting my sensor and can't wait to see what it does to my fuel mileage. I should be a good test subject since I seem to get almost exactly the same mileage each fillup.
