Picture size limitation too limiting!

WOW,,,sensorship seems to be imposed on the TDR now. .

Although i do fully understand the administrator's point,,,,and greatly appreciate the TDR group... . Dealers telling us to stop calling them STe_lers seems a little extreme,,,,,they asked for it buy always trying to rip every dollar out of your wallet,,,you drive on their lot with a new Cummins Ram and right away you will be paying threw the nose for anything... . after all,,you're driving a very pricey truck,,so you can afford it,,right??

Again,,i do appreciate the administrtator effort to keep everyone happy. .

But thats just my opinion,,i could be wrong.

The censorship seems unnecessary. It seems that in some cases the chosen word fits and in others it is harmless ribbing. I doubt anyone here thinks all dealers are crooks (okay, statistically someone here probably does). I am in 100% agreement with a REQUEST to not use the term "stealer" but 100% against censorship of it. I hope this policy is reversed; I'd hate to see censorship become a trend.

I've noticed that some of the sensors don't work the way they should but this is a new truck and you should give DC time to fix things. Were lucky that the TDR lets us talk about these sensor problems. :-laf :-laf

Sorry sometimes I can't help myself :p

The changing of posts from stealer to dealer is a bit extreme I think. The dealers on this board are honest, as far as I know, and if they have a good reputation, I don't think they should worry or whine about the the terms used in jest. I myself will quit using it, but I hope it doesn't set a precedent for the board. I realize the board is privately owned and the admins can do as they will with it, but please, this is a petty issue IMHO...

The slient majority are members of this board. Do they account for the hundreds that do rip you off?

Subtle humor is completely LOST on the spelling-impaired... :-laf :-laf :-laf

As far as the thread title is concerned, I have noticed a rather large percentage of those deciding to bomb their trucks are ALSO equally quick to REMOVE those mods before taking trucks in for warranty repairs - that seens to be lying - trying to create the belief that the truck was stock when the failure occured - and also dishonest, since it's a method used to defraud the dealer of work and materials to which the owner probably is NOT entitled...

THAT being the case, I guess it's fair - and acceptable - for ME to call *ALL* bombers "liars and cheats" - after all, if some here want to persist in demeaning ALL dealerships for what is probably the poor conduct of only a relative few - why can't *I* do the same with you guys? (that includes ME as well, since I have modded my truck!)

I mean you wouldn't REALLY be offended if I arbitrarily lump YOU in with a dishonest few, and call you a liar and cheat, would you? After all, you MUST SURELY understand it's "all in jest", and I don't REALLY mean it - and if you don't happen to be doing any lying and/or cheating, no reason to be offended... :p ;) :D

Gary, if you want to read something really funny. .

I don't know if I agree with what the board members did there, but it sure made me laugh.

FWIW, back on topic, I don't really care about the request to not use the word "stealer". . I don't think I've used it myself. But I am upset that the moderators will be editing posts. I think that's a terrible precedent to set. I'd prefer they just delete posts. I sent an email to Robin about it, hopefully they'll change their policy.

I will NOT be offend in the LEAST if you do this. I know that this is just PART of being in a GROUP that is so LARGE on the first hand. I let people THINK what they WANT, and just shut them up when I PROVE it to them. :D ;) :p

There is some funny stuff in that link above this post. :-laf

You announced to everyone your were about to STEAL from the company that supports or enthusiasm for the automobile industry.

Looks like they atleast LIKE them to go race, unlike Dodge or Ford. Ford warrenty says, "It's void if your race your truck". Kinda harsh after that commercial of them racing with the horse trailer.

Maybe we can come up with a play on words to describe those who de-bomb their trucks before going to the dealer and we can get that censored too.

I feel like a troublemaker making comments like that but this whole thing is silly. Are we adults or a bunch of kids?

P. S. , That post on the Subaru was hilarious. Thanks for the laughs.

I as a Dealer (salesperson of a 5-star dealership)

Have never taken offense to the term

And would not care either way if we keep the change or reverse it.

People who know me and my fellow employees know that the term does not apply to Me or my dealership

Theres my nickels worth

Nicely put ThommyGun, Unfortunately we hear about all of the bad experiences and very little of the good.

I think it would be helpful to create a database here on TDR of Highly recommended dealerships and garages. They do this on the "Car Talk" web site and it's very positive and informative.

But Gary... ... . THAT's "different"!... . Geesh... it totally amazes me the extent to which some go to bash the "stealer" but think NOTHING of doing what you describe above. Another poster on another thread whined that he was incensed by his "stealer" that the "stealer" wouldn't give him a "courtesy" car because he purchased his Lincoln at another "stealer".

Has the world lost it's common sense?

Just for the record, I am very against censorship. It's downright wrong for others to oppose thier political correct views on others. How bout instead of calling them stealers we call them the thieves and liars that they are? My truck was completely stock while it was under warranty, here just a little of what I went through to use my "Warranty". Took them 3 trips to get the fuel sending unit replaced and working correctly, during the last trip, the broke the emergency brake handle and put a huge dent in my passanger door. They owned up to the 10. 00 handle, but would never do anything about the huge dent in the door, before that, the truck had no dents in it. I also had the crank position sensor go out of the truck with 40k miles on it. They tried to get out of replacing that out of warranty, I ended up going to dodge and fighting with them about and to force the dealership to replace it under warranty. Their excuse was that it was not an internal engine component, I very rightly asked them, if I removed the sensor, would the engine leak oil? Thier answer was yes, and I told them then they would replace it under warranty as it is internal to the engine. With the abuse and disrespect I recieved at that dealer and past problems that I have had with Chevrolet on two bad vehicles from them, I refuse to ever buy another new vehicle, and will probably custom build every vehicle I own from scatch from now on.

Censorship and Courtesy

Background and Additional Information:

After receiving requests to have the reference "Stealer" better managed (if not eliminated) on the website, I wasn't convinced we had a problem. So, before acting, I did some homework.

I ran some reports over the past six months. The word "Stealer" had been used 644 times during that period. That works out to 107 incidents each month.

Then, I looked at some (but not all) of those posts.

I saw that the word, "Stealer" was mutating from the situation where it was being used to describe a specific situation (which we had allowed without question) to one where it was becoming many users' standard, accepted reference for all dealers.

The word that I use for this is stereotype (defined as: an oversimplified conception, opinion, or image. ). And as I get older, I grow increasingly uncomfortable with stereotypes. I find it difficult to use the words "all" or "never" with any seriousness when referring to others.

I don't want this website to become a place where (if even in fun), "All dealers are stealers. " Nor do I want it to be a place where "No dealers are stealers. " What I want to do is encourage users to share details/facts about good, as well as bad, experiences. I cannot recall a single incident where we "disciplined" any user for posting the facts associated with an experience with a dealer. And I am not trying to discourage it with this simple request. Simple courtesy is all this request is about.

For those of you who have taken the time to send me professional, courteous e-mails/PMs, I thank you. I am reviewing each one with an open mind.

Thing you have to remember is that this is a PRIVATELY OWNED FORUM, and as much as I hate cencership, I can understand where it can be used here. :) :(

Well stated Robin, even though I agree with the stereotype!:D c'mon! $72 for a little stinkin 2 button keyless entry remote! That's ridiculous, but yes it does make us look bad to stereotype anyone, and let's face it, we got the best forum I've ever read. Did you read the whole subaru thing that David linked to? Pretty nasty. Glad it's not like that here. Makes me want to run over all the little cars even more!
