Nice writup. FWIW I ran a belt with similar cracks in it for over 50k miles, no problems. Don't get me wrong I had a new one under the seat I just wanted to know how far it would go. It lasted longer than I did owning the truck.

As a Quality Engineer for a belt producing company I can tell you that those flex cracks won't hurt the belt at all. They will occur on the Goodyear belt also within very few miles. The real strength in your belt is in the cord line.

Thank you for that good piece of advice. I have been at the dealers with a recall on my 95 CTD and their mechanic insisted that I better have the serpentine belt replaced due to those flex cracks. I told him to leave the belt alone and not to touch it until I can get the dealer owner/general manager. The general manager, the service manager, the mechanic (who they call a "Master Technician" and I looked at the belt and determined that there was nothing wrong with the belt and those cracks were normal. The mechanic got a good chewing out in front of me.
