my 5/100 diesel wraparound policy from DC just ended.

i had a long list of stuff fixed at 85k. only a $50 deductable for the whole repair order not per item.

the added bonus is I bought this truck (previous owner left warranty in force) with 83k and spent $50 to transfer the warranty with DC.

I spend $50 to transfer and $50 deductable and got (sorry for the caps it is from my maint records):

85242 TRANSMISSION TRANSFER PLATE

TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY UPPER HOUSING

REPLACED TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FILTER

TRANSMISSION PAN GASKET

LOWER STEERING COLUMN COUPLING

INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT

TRANSFER CASE REAR OUTPUT SEAL

REPLACED TRANSFER CASE FLUID

RESEALED REAR DIFF COVER

REPLACED 75w140 SYNTHETIC GEAR OIL AND FRICTION MODIFIER

REPLACED DRIVERS WINDOW/LOCK SWITCH

REPLACED TRAILER LIGHT CONNECTOR

they were no help with my lift pump. I just bought one from the cummins dealer and installed it myself. It was easier on me than debating with them about the requirements of a vp44.

I would buy another DC extended warranty. you can cancel them and get a refund if you sell the truck.

I would have to dissagree. I bought mine with 64k miles on it, and I bought the extended warranty on mine. To date, I have had the following replaced at the dealer, at the cost of just my deductable. Warranty only cost me 1600 bucks by the way.

Rear Brake Cylinders (the ended up replacing the brake shoes and drums due to that)

Repaired a Transfer Case leak (new seals)

Replaced a Lift Pump

Trac-Bar replaced

Powersteering pump was repaired (cant remember off hand what was changed, but it leaked really bad)

transmission input shaft seal replaced (leaking)

Master and Slave cylinder for the Clutch (leaking)

There was a few other things too. All have been fixed in 2 trips to the dealer, and at 200. 00 a pop for the deductable, I have basicly spent 2000 on repairs total so far. For what the bills were from the dealer, I would have spent damn near $4500 or more. Now granted those are warranty charges and are inflated, but still. Yes I could have fixed some of it myself too, but why when you dont have too.

He has the 7/70 powertrain warranty so the t/c and transmission would be covered. Lift pump is covered by Cummins engine warranty I believe.

Trac bar is worthless and should be upgraded anyways. Rear brake cylinders can be had for 10 bucks a piece. It all come down, do you do your own work or not? If not then It might be a good idea!

If it was me, I would not get the warranty. You are covered on the cummins till 100k, you have the 7/70 powertrain warranty, no 4x4 issues on your truck, rear axle is bulletproof. All your warranty really helps you on is the A/C, some braking components, vacuums stuff, and little other stuff. None of that will break at 100k unless it is a fluke thing. The A/C system is great on these trucks which would be your most expensive problem needing fixing possibly. I would save your money and use it to do a real rebuilt on your transmission when the time comes... . DC hates approving work and dealers don't like doing it since they get paid less, so you come out the loser in the end most of the time.

How many miles are one your truck and how long do you plan on keeping it?

In the past I have kept my trucks for over 10 yrs as most were low mileage and the BIG factor was I could work of them if required. But today the techniqule features on all cars & trucks.

I feel I will be going to the dealers more in future if required. At 58 I just don't want to have to do much crawling under the truck anymore. My old truck only had around 75K on it's diesel eng But it was 20 years old and so many nice improvements since then. I admit it I WANTED a New Cummins rather need one at this time. But Luckily I can afford it and I haven't bought myself a new toy for a while.

How much more time will an extended warrenty give me as I doubt I will ever go over the mileage?

Me again, Will I get an application to buy an extended warranty from Dodge Corp after I buy my truck or is the warranty something I need to get it at time of purchase?

Thanks again

dealers with usually discount the price of the warranty at the time of purchase. you Might save some money buying it up front. they will cancel and refund the warranty at your request.

you may get a letter from DC but you can add it at any dealer prior to the factory warranty expiring.

i added the warranty to a 2000 4x4 1500. i added it at my local dealer (truck was not sold there) through mopar at a 12mo 0% interest deal.

Be cautious. I have seen two of them that are excellent and the rest were scams. I will no longer do work on customers cars if they have service plans (other then the two I have worked with), unless they pay for the work and the time to file the request for payment with the service company, then I refund what ever the company pays. Check it out with some service facilities and see what they think of it. They are many times worded so that they can get out of paying for most common failures. Some of them require the use rebuilt or used parts rather then new. So "buy with care".
