I'm new to TDR, so I apologize in advance if I didn't search the FAQ's correctly for an answer. I'd like to know what the best service manual I can buy would be for a first generation rig ('92, 4wd 5 spd stock-no goodies :( )

Also, anybody recommend (or strongly not recommend) an exhaust brake setup? I assume it runs the same way a Jake brake operates. I occasionally pull my 4 plus ton tractor on a 29' gooseneck trailer and could use help with the braking. (could also use help on the power end, too, but I understand that rebuild is pricey). Thanks.

the Dodge service manual is the best one to get.

813703108 1993 RAMCHARGER & 150-350 SM

816990303 1993 CHARGING/SPEED CONTROL DIAG. manual

816990310 1993 5. 9L CUMMINS DIESEL TRK DIAG manual

8169994000 1993 TECH SERVICE BULLETIN BOOK

These are the ones I picked up from Dodge last week. Total cost delivered was around $125.

Here is where you order them at.

The operation might seem the same on an exhaust brake. But the jack operates off the valves on a big rig. On ours. It just blocks off the exhaust flow.

Some of the other guy's will give you pointer on turning up amd which exhaust brakes are the best.

Welcome,

Best manual is from stealer (dealer) bar none.

Best brake in my opinion from what i've read and heard is the pacbrake.

The Cummins Troubleshooting and Repair Manual is really good if you are interested in getting into your engine "more deeply"... It covers only the engine so you probably would still want to get the Dodge manual too... There is also a parts catalog that I have found to be invaluable when buying engine parts from a Cummins distributor... I think I remember paying around $60. for both the parts catalog and the engine manual... You can buy these directly from Cummins online.

Welcome!
