I'm a little confused as to which service manual most of the members are using.

Is the manual advertized in the Cummins powerstore the better manual ?? I would mainly be interested in the 5. 9 engine manual and for $63. 00 this looks like a good buy.

I'm assuming the D\C manual has info on both the vehicle and the 5. 9 engine.

Bob, I've got a Cummins manual and the Dodge manual. I rarely use the Cummins manual. Let's face it, this engine doesn't need a lot of work that needs a manual but I use the Dodge manual all the time because most of the stuff that breaks is on the truck. If you get the Dodge manual you probably won't need the Cummins since the Dodge manual has the engine too and it's pretty complete.

Yes, Bob for aproximately 37 dollars more you get a book from Dodge.

The service manual from Dodge covers the whole truck.

Not only Diesels 2500/3500 but also gasoline burners 1500/2500/3500.

Now that's a bargain.

The Cummins engine book on 5. 9s sound good but is specifically for Dodge application.

Does the book cover all applications the engine( 5. 9) is used for? Pumps,Generators, Marine, Medium Duty Trucks, Light duty trucks(Dodge Ram).

Is just a basic book about how to tear down/rebuild engine?

If is it basic tear/rebuild book with some maintanence recommendations it is not worth the money,

Now if it as all aplications of the engine and the parts/accessories with tear/rebuild and helpful maintanence recommendations that would be worth the money.

If it is for dodge only it is worth half the money.

Get the Dodge manual. You will find it very handy for all of the stuff that breaks on our trucks. If you should need to service the engine it's pretty complete... IMO...

And one more for the Dodge manual. Its over twice as thick as aftermarkets and yet the pages are thinner, that says something!. I agree the Cummins engine manual (mine covers a number of apps for the B5. 9 engines) is probably superfluous—but I did notice the maintenance schedule is more lax than the Dodge schedule?? And if you EVER encounter an electrical problem, beware none of the other 'service' manuals seem to know how to draw a schematic. Wire colors, tracers, gauge, pinouts of plugs, test points, it's all there. I'm pretty sure if its not in the "Michigan Bible" it's not on the truck!!;)
