My neighbor is looking to purchase a good service manual for a 95 Ram. Is the 95 manual the same for my '98 12 valve Ram? Any help is appreciated.

Not the same. The big deal is that the wiring diagram changes everytime an engineer comes up with some gadget bright idea. If he has an automatic the trasmission is a 47RH instead of the 47RE that the later models have. The one to get is the one Dodge sells. Other versions would probably be ok in an outhouse.

Don't be concerned about the price of the manual, it will pay for itself with just one or two simple repairs to your truck that may have been impossible without it.

Buy it from Dodge for the year truck you have or he has.
I agree with Joe and illflem.
Other differences are power brake booster is operated with power steering fluid(97 on up) not vacuum (94 to 96). The dash is also new for 98s

What would the part # be for a '95 diesel with a manuel transmission. And for me what would the part # be for a '98 (12 valve) with an auto transmission.

I spent 2 days trying the search function on this site without getting results for the question about a shop manuel. I know I've read several posts about purchasing manuels in the past. Don't know why it would find them.

I believe there is a 1-800 number in the owner's manual, or a Dodge parts counter can tell you. You tell the folks at the 1-800 number what your truck is and they send the manual. No need to know a part number. The manual is the best investment I made for the truck.

I ordered mine via the internet.

Haven't ordered a CD yet i bought a D/c manual the day i took delvery of my truck,But as i remember if you have a CD on this box we set in front of from Alldata you can get it on CD for your rig for $20. and up dated thru the year. I suppose there is a yearly fee for up dates the following years. I have a friend that has a repair shop and he payes 175 every quarter for every modle & mfg"er built veh.

tdrmbramr is right about Alldata, it may even be better than the DC manual. For $20 a year you get net access to the DC manual for your model year plus detailed instructions on how to do recalls and TSBs that aren't in the manual. It also does diagnostics for you step by step. Check them out alldata.com , you can go pretty far before they ask for money.

bryanbb,
The Dodge truck manuals include information on all modesl Rams (1500,2500,3500,2wd,4wd,manual/auto trans and gas/diesel engines).
Just ask counter person for(or customer service rep, phone)for year and model(Ram) of truck.

The 1995 Truck Service Manual is part # 81-370-5108. The phone # is 216-572-7240. The Dodge dealers around these parts won't order it for you. You'll call the number yourself. The service manual is complete, and includes all Ram Truck models 1500 thru 3500.
The 1998 Service Manual is # 81-370-8108 and again is complete for 1500 thru 3500 models. The primary manual covers the 12 valve Cummins, and the included supplements cover the '98. 5 24 valve Cummins.
