Sounds like VW has an expensive labor problem along with the importation of cheap Chinese EV cars. Then you can add in carbon credit, global taxation, restrictions on ICE, etc.... This will happen in North America too...... I will stop before I get banned.

Not only this, the government pushed them hard to go all electric ASAP and now they pay the price. The VW EVs are inferior and way to expensive compared to even Tesla, are plagued with software issues and the material appearance inside is worse then 30 years ago. So sales are way behind expectations. Believe it or not, the Chinese EVs are much better then ours.
It's us that killing our industries, not the Chinese, we do it ourselves with stupid politicians and unreal political decisions. They behave like Europe is a secluded island somewhere in space..

whoops. another huge miss.

hope they start making some vehicles people actually want.

cheers!

When I was at the dealer yesterday getting my ECU replaced, I chatted with the sales folks about the vehicles they need to push. They came out to me, that the Jeep 4XE is for a specific buyer. Plenty of uninformed customers still come thru the door asking to be able to buy a 2025 RAM 1500 with a HEMI. Customers are asking about the new 2025 RAM HD, when it's going to be released, what specs, etc, which makes it harder to sell what they have on the lots already.

that just means when Mopar gets tired of sitting on excess inventory in a period of slow demand, sooner or later they will have to up the incentives to make the trucks a better deal than the 2025 model or they will eat them. Some years back my neighbor bought a brand new Ram 1500 at a giant discount.. it was more than 2 model years old and had never been titled.. That stuff will happen unless Stellantis gets with the program.

This is what my boss is going to do with our company trucks. He knows via me and my research that if he waits long enough, he'll be able to get a couple 2024 Tradesmen 3500 Cummins for a great price to keep the fleet up in running order.

smart money waits for downturns in the economy to make large purchases or make investment moves. That little tidbit works for well for people who don't live paycheck to paycheck and who save and sit back and wait. I bought my 2016 new, it was almost 10% below sticker before taxes and such and finance rates were so low it was almost like borrowing money for free. I assume we are coming up on another period like that.

I got a heck of a deal on my truck, buying used and doing a little bit of haggling. I did pay cash too, so that helped. Glad I got the warranty though.

Really, I'm hoping to buy a new truck left over 2025 in end of 2026. Right now there are good deals going on, but the deals will only get better as time goes on.

Though I do like my truck I got now. Tough decisions.

My wife and I were looking to replace her 4 runner a couple months ago. She wanted to take a look at the Jeep Grand Cherokee. I stopped for a few minutes on my way home from work to just take a quick look make sure I didn't see anything glaring that I didn't like about it (was hoping for that as not a big fan of them. However her vehicle so). In any case at least at this specific dealer they had some at "regular price" but they had quite a few that were over $9k off , I saw one that was $14k off sticker. In the end we never went to look at them as she found something else that she, as well as I really liked and just never made it up there to look hard at them. I was surprised how much they were marking them down. That one I saw that was 14k off was on a 62k vehicle which is what 22-23% off. Due to the economy, stale sales, too much inventory no idea the real reason but they definitely had some serious markdowns going on.

Also been looking for a replacement for my wifes RDX. Like the new Landcruiser, 4runners are great but we are starting to like the new Honda Passport. Way less expensive and seems very capable with great styling. Love the Jeep Grand Cherokees but relibility is always suspect on those. BarryG, what did you end up getting and did you find any opportunity for wheeling a dealing. Honda and Toyota they usually don't have a ton of wiggle room

As you mentioned the Cherokee reliability was a concern of mine. We know two people that have them one no problems the other plenty of problems. Checking their reliability ratings at a few places such as jd powers, consumer reports etc they all at least the few places I checked had them ranked pretty low reliability wise.

My wife has been driving 4Runners for 25 years and we have had no problems with the 3 that we have had over that time. However we are both getting older, getting in and out of the 4 runner while not really a chore wasn’t what it could be, gas mileage was never great on any of them, the ride while not terrible on the road at all also wasn’t what it could be, cabin noise again not terrible but not the greatest. It did do off road very well and that is normally the trade offs for good off road prowess. However at our age we don’t do any hard wheeling these days more like Sunday off-road driving

we ended up getting a Lexus rx350. Great deal no but there was no market adjustment either. As you mentioned Toyota doesn’t do much wheeling and dealing. They did give us what I thought was a great trade in value for the 4 runner we traded in. I was wanting to get her a vehicle that was more refined, quiet, better road manners and all that. The Lexus while perhaps not the best in any of those categories is definitely an upgrade from the 4 runner and checked all the boxes without having to spend much too extra over a new 4 runner

My wile has a 2022 Lexus rx 350. Been a good car at 30 k now. It’s her third Lexus. Dealer service is awesome. Does well in the snow with the right tires

They should've made a the Ramcharger with a diesel engine. A lot of hybrid enthusiasts see the light in diesel-electric powertrains to make a combination of EV and diesel work together. Been a ton of talk about it in magazines and other places as of late.

Whoever does the first production worthy diesel-electric hybrid is going to make a killing.

Funny they keep the old Pentastar around, attach it to a generator, but axe the Hemi and the EcoDiesel.

Wish I could make those horrible decisions at work... oh wait, I would be out a job. lol

I'm very familiar with Edison Motors. However, I'd like to see them do diesel-electric conversions for HD pickup trucks with warranties, and service centers.

It's a great idea, it just needs to take off.

1100 more jobs gone jeep plant. happy holidays. cheers!

that doesn't mean the jobs are gone, it just means they are idled until Stellantis can unload a backlog of unsold vehicles so all of them go on unemplyment and some of them will collect SUB pay..if they are collecting SUB pay it is almost better than working according to my dad, as they collect about 90% of their normal 40 hour salary without actually going to work.. that is great until the SUB fund runs out..

You can also rest assured it isn't just Stellantis that has a load of unsold vehicles, they are just the canary in the coal mine.

my Dad was an auto worker.. growing up I learned people being laid off was way of life but I also know if they are in the UAW
they have call back rights or sometimes the offer to work at a different factory which just depends.

Friend of mine worked at Ford;s his whole life. in the early 80's he worked at the Ford Tractor plant and he was laid off for what seems like 3 or 4 years
and eventually Ford offered him another job at a different place, take it or leave it.. so he took it.

my Dad spent the last 20 years working for the Chevy Small Block plant in Flint MI.. but he was laid off more than once.. and he rehired at Fisher Body in Grand Blanc MI but he got laid off from them too... he had call back rights to both facilities and for a few years he bounced between the 2 facilities while still having retention at the other.. eventually the economy recovered and he had to resign his job at either of the 2... he chose to stay at the Number 1 Engine Plant in Flint..
