Break the gear loose from the shaft when the dial reads zero, so that the injection pump will not spring back to the low spot on the cam. At a given mm of lift, the injection pump will want to spring back to zero when you break it free from the gear. Then clean the shaft really well with brake cleaner before you re-torque it. I suggest you go through the spectrum of lift and mark the balancer with every mm of lift, so that you can get an idea of how far you're gonna have to turn the engine when you break the gear loose to get the desired result. Otherwise, you'll be working blind and that's no fun at all. Our race truck slipped timing at the Muncie event and we worked blindly in the field and got her timed the very first try. We do this everyday, so it was a little more than luck. Just think ahead and take your time.
