Seven years of bad luck!

What a way to start the weekend. As I was backing out from the local coffee shop this morning, I caught my passenger side mirror(flip-out tow style) on an awning support and demolished it. #ad
Luckily no damage to the door. The local 5-Star informed me that it would be $347. 00 to replace the one mirror. . Ouch...
Mopar4less offered a more reasonable price, but only sell them as a set.
Does anyone have any other suggestions as to where to look? I already checked all the local salvage yards and had no luck. .
Any chance that someone out there has a passenger side Flip-tow mirror they want to get rid of? Or if anyone has been as dumb as me and screwed up the driver side one, I would be willing to go in on a set from Mopar4less. Any help appreciated! Justin

They list for $270. from the dealer for a pair. I paid $205. because we get a discount. Did the $347. include install? Either way, you'd be getting ripped. I put mine on myself. My only problem was I wished I'd bought the tool for the door panel clips. It would have been a lot easier with that.

Insurance co. might have to buy me a new pass. side mirror. Hail chipped the glass and they can't seem to find a replacement glass. Bad thing is I won't know for a couple weeks. Good luck on yours.

I bet a salvage yard would have it for less than your insurance deductible or the dealer. Might even find something else you just gotta have #ad

Deductible isn't really a concern. Got about 5k in hail damage. That's what got the glass.

Check with a junkyard that is hooked to the nationwide computer. Here's one that has done well for me, Walt & Vern's Pick-Up Parts 888-829-1263. They are located near Seattle but will ship the part direct to you from the closest place to you that they find the part in the US. They also offer a 101 day(?)warranty on used parts.

Thanks for the number Illflem. I'll try it tuesday. Checked most of the junk yards in Oregon and had no luck. I guess looking on the bright side, not many of our favorite trucks are getting totalled and laid to rest in the scrap yard #ad

Congo, BTW make sure to ask for a salvage part if that's what you want. I've never had trouble with Walt&Vern, but many junk yards will sell you new aftermarket parts if they can't find junk ones without telling you. Some of the after market parts are cheap Chinese copies that belong in a junk yard even when new. I don't think the Chinese have started copying larger Dodge PUs yet, but give them time.

Where could a person pick up one of these tools for removing the door panel, and how much would it cost? Is there much chance of taking it off without the tool without doing any harm???

To replace the trailer tow mirror it is not necessary to remove the door trim panel completely. You can get more than enough working room by removing one phillips screw from the panel in the area of the mirror, two more phillips screws in the "cup" that you pull on to close the door, and then detaching ONLY THE TWO door trim panel retainers that are in a vertical line beneath where you removed the single phillips screw. You can pop these retainers loose with a large regular screw driver or with no tool at all. The instructions that come with the mirrors DO NOT have you removing the entire door trim panel-only as much as I have detailed above.

The tool that you will need is a small socket to fit the three hex nuts that attach the mirror to the door-10 mm or on some versions 8 mm. You should also have on hand two or three replacement door trim panel retainers (they look like little plastic Christmas trees) so you don't have to concern yourself with preserving the existing retainers.

Once you have the door trim panel retainers in hand, any fears that you may about breaking the door trim panel while removing should be gone. The retainers are the weak link. They will break before the door or panel.

I think it would be pretty tough to do it without taking the panel all the way off. At least it would be much tougher that way. The door panel clip tool may be available at an auto parts store, I think. The only real harm without that tool is to your fingers when you try to take the clips out of the door. The panel will pop off the clips - leaving them in the door - and a real pain to get out. #ad
I'll invest in the tool the next time I monkey around with the door panels. Good luck!

Thanks for the info on the door trim. I guess I won't worry about it for now seeing as how I can't locate a replacement mirror. I just can't bring myself to pay the local dealer $340 for a single mirror #ad
. Just going to have to keep searching those scrap yards.

Be careful when you pull that door panel. I tried prying mine off with a small flat bar and it broke my door panel in two places where the retainers attach instead of popping out the door panel retainers. I've had better luck giving them a quick hard pull with my hands. I wish I'd had a tool.
