Three days ago when I started my truck it had a slightly rough idle thaty cleared up as soon as I came above idle speed. The following morning it started and ran fine. After coming home from a two hundred mile uneventful trip, I shut her down. Starting up again after unhooking the trailer, It idled very rough and when in gear it buck when your stopped or driving??? Any thoughts?? Bad injecter? 36,700 miles

Thanks Richard

Bad FCA (fuel control acuator) if you want to trouble shoot it put some 2 stroke oil in your fuel tank if it goes away it's your FCA

P-Bar... Your the "man". Put about a cupful of 2 stroke oil, that I use in my Yamaha outboard, in about 15 gals of fuel in the tank. After a few minutes of braking to slosh the oil around then a few minutes later the engine smoothed right out. I guess I'll make an appointment with the dealer.

Thanks again, I really appreciate al of your help and all the good advice I've received from TDR members, like you, over the years.

Flyfishing-

My guess is that you have an injector failing. Note: I experienced the exact same issue and after running some diagnostics at the dealer it was confirmed that my #2 injector was not running at full pressure. Once replaced I have had zero issues. I can tell you the symptoms you are experiencing progressively got worse on my truck over time. The FCA could be an issue as well as I have seen some of my buddies replace these with less than 50k miles. Good luck!

May the force be with you on your dealings with the dealer. ;-) After the dealer replaced my injector he kept it so I could take a look at it. It appears my injector was extremely dirty even after running "power service" with every tank and using a 2 micron fuel by-pass filter!!! Apparently I had been idling tooo much. ;-(

Just left my truck at Duncan auto in Key West. The wrench said it was NOT the FCA, according to my verbal description of the symptoms. In the next breath it was, "did the water in fuel light come on? " No!, Well you may have contaminated fuel, in which case the fuel system is not covered under warranty and you will have to pay for at least the diagnostic fee... . I tried my best not to bend over on the way out.

I do have an after market 2u fuel filter on board but if they want to wiggle out that won't be of any help, in fact they may say that exacerbated the problem.

More news tomorrow Richard

Keep us posted!!! I still think its injector related based upon your symptoms. Guess we will see. ;-) Hoping for warranty related issues!!!! ;-)

Of course when I drove my truck to the dealer it ran fine and they could not replicate the problem. I spoke with the mechanic and I feel that he was being very honest... . I hate intermittent problems.

Stay tuned... News at 11.

Mine did nearly the same thing, but it cleared up and is running like a champ now. I love my truck and wouldn't trade it for anything, but the injector/fca issues on the 3rd gens really makes me wish I just had a 2nd gen 12v. But I guess even if I had a 2nd gen 12v, it'd still have it's own breed of problems... lol!

Copy that EArp, Would love a 12V in my truck... all mechanical including a lift pump driven off the cam. Then I could dump my 3rd Gen key... what a pain. . *****, *****, *****.

I'm heading back to the Arctic soon... I sure have a lot of confidence in my truck. yeah, right.

Thanks guys... stay posted

Richard
