the smarty jr is going to give you the best after that the pay back becomes longer, with the mileage we do towing heavy we are trying every thing we can

I just drove 157 miles down the interstate and got a hair under 26 mpg. (Figured by hand. ) My method? I drove 57 mph (1550-1600 rpm), avoided the urge to accelerate briskly, filled my tank to the top with LSD, and added some 2 cycle oil to the fill. All of the fluids used are appropriate viscosity synthetics and I keep my 265/75 Michelins filled 65-68 psi. For those that find it difficult to slow down, the time penalty for not driving 65 mph was 19 minutes. I've got 19 minutes to save at the pumps.

What size rim are you using on those 235 85 geolanders? how much 2 cycle oil do you use?

How about an aftermarket Torque Converter that is more effiecent? Or using a lockup controller that would lockup much sooner than the 50mph. A performance gain and possible mpg gain?

Hey Guys

Air up the tires, go smaller on the tires.

Thats narrower and taller if possible.

Slow down, might get run over !

as for slowing down, I do 184 miles round trip daily. That works out to 2. 5 hrs. a week more in travel time.

Can you say 8 day work week ?

62mph= 23. 3

72mph= 21. 6

80+mph= 19. 6

Thats in my 04. 5

Hope I dont jinks myself.

- Rokktech sensor didn't help milage and was removed after 20K.

- Moved from the 13's to the 15's by replacing the FCA and adjusting the valves to nominal.

- Next step is a Smarty JR -- in a few weeks.

With the prices in the mid $4 range, the Jetta TDI is getting quite a bit of use.

Short Shifting

I have a country road 30 minute commute one way to work, 55MPH top posted speed limit. Doesn't pay to go blasting through a small town.

Lately I have been short shifting, hit about 2000, shift, pick it up at about 1500 and repeat. Engine is rarely seeing 2500 on the daily commute.

I do not have any data that this helps.

One time I was listening to Sirrus and on the Trucking channel (147?) they had a fleet manager and were talking mechanical and maintainance issues with OTR drivers, question repeatedly came up asking about mileage and his first question to the drivers was always about shift points.

Pretend there's an egg between you right foot and the accelerator. When you see the light change ahead of you, take you foot off the accelerator and coast into the traffic light. Easy starts, easy spots.

How hard is it to clean up those easly spots:-laf:-laf

Good point. I took my Westach EGT/Boost gage out so they could pull my dash and fix the blend door (warranty). Took me 4 months but I finally put it back in. My mileage has gone up at least 0. 5 mpg paying attention to the gages. BTW: Nice choice on that Northwood 5er. Best coach for the money there is IMHO, maybe for any amount of money.

Thanks, I agree with you. Nash may be an even better value.
