If your running an auto. This happens. Use a 94 and up flex plate. It has been redesigned from what our trucks had orginally.

Do a search for flex plate and you should come up with a good number for the newer plate.

While the trans is out you might want to check the alignment of the trans to the engine... . What you want to know is if the centerline of the crank and the center line of the trans main shaft are in alignment with each other...

If they are not it will cause the flywheel to be flexing back and fourth with each revolution of the crank... ... Kind of like using the flywheel as a universal joint ,,,,

If this is happening and you don't correct the problem. You will just keep breaking flywheels... .

the way you check the alignment is. take the auto trans apart and bolt the empty case back on the engine... . Then attach a dial gauge to the crank and have the plunger ride on the front pump bore... . Rotate the crank and watch the dial... . It should move more than . 002... if it does ... you will need to recenter the

plate on the back of the block... ... .

Look in an older Dodge factory service manual in the clutch section... . It explains there how it is done to a standard trans bell housing... . The procedure is about the same for an auto trans... .

Good luck... ///

Good point mysteryman.

I haven't posted about that because most people don't have the tools need to do the job. I have seen NTC 350's & 400's as far as . 125" out of line.

I don't think I'd do the "gut the trans" routine unless your truck has very very low mileage, or you just replaced the flexplate not long ago. If your truck has a GOzillion miles (or at least 150-200K) I'd just slap in a new one and let'er fly.

Travis. .

i broke the center out of my flexplate too. i bought a billet ATS one for about $300 or somethin like that, its alot cheaper than factory and its really strong.

it has 200000 on it the flywheel he is putting on there is rated at alot higher torque rating i dont know why he put the stock one on when he put the suncoast transmission in it would have been a good time to put a better one in im pushing 968 pounds of torque at the rear wheels

well lets see... fire school monday and wednessdays till june, school mon-fri, work sat and sun. , and now a girl friend... i have been hiding in my truck and the fire house. she is still purring. come to think about... . e-brake isn't working again... and positive battier cable is falling off. she needs some help. . but as dependable as first day off the lot.

Dude I just want some of Jimmy's special duck tape that stuff must be good for a fly wheel repair...

I will buy a hole case and sell it on e-bay. . :-laf

Hey Mysteryman... . if you haven't already done so elsewere, would you be willing to do a little write-up on the method/tools etc on checking that alignment process ????

Just a thought... :D

pb...

i just had mine replaced man i had one put on their that was rated at 1000pounds of torque the stock one was junk if you have any mods i would get a good aftermarket one
