Anybody broke/shattered a billet input shaft yet? If so what were you doing? tire size? horsepower? 4 wheel drive? 2 wheel drive? Just curious and trying to gather some info. My transmission is at the most 2 1/2 months old and only about 1500 miles on it. A few 15lb launches and 3 sled pulls.

Advertising on website says it is not only the billet, But also the strongest shaft made. Shaft broke in half, one half is wedged in converter, and the other broke the front transmission pump. what would be a fair scenario? What should a customer do?

di martino?? People are starting to break the billet shafts. It is on the street that they do it. Sledpulling isn't that bad on a transmission. I know a guy that has stock shafts, leaves the line at almost 3000RPM. This truck runs in the same class as Terry Coppess and Scot Amos. Like I said it is the high high side of the transfer case that does all the damage.

are you talking to me? Mines broke! 2 wheel drive stop light launch, no boost built. Converter lock up then "snap".

If the break is at least halfway smooth, then rough, it's a fatigue crack. A fatigue crack is caused by a material defect (microcrack), or a sharp edge, like a spline or shoulder that does not have a proper radius. It can also be caused by a misalignment that bends the shaft over and over.

If it's all rough, it's a sudden break. A sudden break is caused by bad material/heat treatment.

What kind of transmission were you running, who built it?

The transmission did its job, the billet parts failed. The provider of the billet isnt the same as the transmission builder. I will private message you the transmission builders name, I dont believe they need to be associated with this thread.

Unless it was an alignment issue then I wouldn't think it would be the vendors name. WHere are you located? You may be one of the guys that I heard of breaking theirs.

I have heard there are actually 2 or 3 different "kinds" of billet shafts, mainly the exact metal that they are made from, ie different strengths. 1 company that I have talked to says they will not put the older billlet shafts in theirs trans but keep them around to sell them to the other companies that want them and says that they are good enough.

I need to get a hold of Opie and see about a new input because I have a feeling the purple transmission guys arent gonna call my broken one defective. I talked to them today and the response was"omg what were you doing when it broke!?" My response was "DRIVING". How do I get a hold of Opie?Email only?

well i cant say that i broke any shafts, but i sure have twisted the input , intermidiate, and ouput splines several times, i just looked at my 3rd transmission this weekend and it too had twisted splines on the intermidiate... ... ...

Stock alloy just stress relieved?

yes that one in partictular was, but the first one i went through welded the intermidiate to the output to where they could not get it separated, then the second input twisted itself into the intermidiate, and the drum they say had somthing to do with it as well, bad material or what?

At least your getting practice pulling the transmission in and out. :-laf I have heard of others with lubrication issues on the intermediate shaft.
