You are mistaken Herb, the auto needs to be built up to sustain torque increases, the manuel trans will take a lot more before a HD clutch is needed, please look at the TST site... . you will see that the stick will take more torque.

Sorry, I'm not trying to step on anybody's toes here.

The #8 in a newer (read 96-98) 5 speed can produce a little too much torque for stock the transmission/clutch to handle. Shoot the #10 is rated to 330hp/750lbs of torque. The #8 is obviously more than that. In the 94-95 5 speeds the #8 is rated around 230/605.

In the 96-98 auto's the #8 is the highest you want to go before the necessity arises of transmission mods. IMHO auto transmission mods are a must regardless how many hp you want. 94-95 autos, the #8 is fine.

You may have just got the years mixed up. I just wanted to clarify this in case any newbees see this thread.

Here is a chart: http://www.dieselpage.com/tstpk.htm

Thanks Ryan

I talked to DDT and asked about the pressure turn up adjustment that is on his site, he said that I could do that. Looks like I'll call piers about the plate and ask his opinion about springs, I've asked about it on here before and everyone raves about the 3k springs, guages are on the way and I want to get them in before doing any mods. Thanks again for the info BOTW everyone says a #8 is the most I would want to to without mods to the transmission(Guess I'll look at that next).

956Wheel, what does "KDP inspected in place" and "tabbed" mean in your signature? Thanks in advance from one of the over valved crowd.

Steve, The KDP and tabbed has to do with the "Killer Dowel Pin" in the timing cover that people are tabbing thru the cover to insure it doesn't fall out and take out the gears there. It is a pin in the 12 valve engines to line up the timing cover that sometimes falls out. It's in the 24 valve also but the cover has a "blind" hole that stops the fallout.

Cooker is 100% right on on the plates. He beat me to the punch to post a website where you can see the horsepower/torque ratings for each applications. Yes, the auto won't take the hp/torque that a stick will and unless you rebuild it to match, one has to be careful what you do. The stick is stronger from stock, but it also starts out from the factory with 35 more horsepower that our autos. I would of rather had a stick than auto but I can't take all that clutching when you get into a traffic jam due to knees that are wearing out. Herb
