Went to a friend's to look at his furnace, drivin up a small hill, temp started climbin real quick. . got to the top of hill, was at 240, red temp light was on, and she was dingin up a storm. Pulled off and shut it down, was leaking from passenger side of engine, middle. Possibly the turbo? 2010 is water cooled, correct? could also be the transmission cooler, if the cooler is still located between the oil filter and turbo.

had it towed to the dealer, didnt start it up. . 78. 5k on clock. .

this is the first problem i`ve had with my truck, other than a bit of a rough running, which I think was a bad turbo speed sensor, or a flash.

anyone else had an issue like this?

tnx

Based on your signature I assume that you still have the EGR and EGR cooler in place. Sounds like you might have lost a coolant line to/from the EGR cooler.

Dealer called, said it was water pump. .

I inspected that pump _very_ close, didnt have any obvious water. . Mebe it tracked around block to left side? mebe dealer is wrong. . hmm duno

yea 6shaker, my truck is stock. waiting for 100k miles muahaha

Just when I thought the poor quality water pumps. My 89 the pump was still good at 200,000 miles these newer truck the pumps fall less than 100,000 miles. Here's a thought maybe the belt tentioner is putting too much pressure on the belt/ bearrings? Belt too short too tight? I don't have an answer just know I will not take a long trip with out a spare pump under the seat.

I have owned a total of three wood chippers with 4BT engines in them and have never changed a water pump. These engines run at 2500 RPM all day long. The last machine had over 2200 hours on it also. The pump in my signature truck didn't make 60K miles.

That's why I'm wondering if the set up in the Ram's is putting too much pressure on the pump's shaft and bearings. Too many of us have had pumps fail, and not just pumps from one manufacture. All the pumps can't be bad... Hey just a thought.

It's not the Rams, it's all newer cars. Every manufacturer is having them go out "early". Most little cars now drive them with the timing belt so that it becomes a maintenance item to change with the belt, or if it goes around 80k the new timing belt is just part of the job. Not sure what the reasoning is, better flow=more strain, belt tension, just cheaping out?

The last machine had over 2200 hours on it also. The pump in my signature truck didn't make 60K miles.

On my truck 2200 hours was right at 75K miles, so the pump in your sig truck was a shorter life pump for sure but 2200 hours isn't all that many.

I currently have about 87K and 2600 hours on my stuck pump, with a coolant flush at 49K and a coolant filter installed at 57K.

Do all Cummins engines utilize the same water pumps or are they specific to the fit up? Weve got 2 cranes at work an 855 Grove with a commonrail style 5. 9 with over 7000 hrs, a 9130 Grove with an 8. 3 with around 5k hrs, and 2 shuttle wagons with CR 5. 9s. Not sure of the hrs on the shuttle wagons because I rarely am in them but they get ran hard nearly around the clock. I talk to the service guy pretty regularly and none of these engines have ever been touched other than basic maintenance.
