Bought a Ram's Head hitch cover in Walmart at Mitchel SD day before yesterday.

It set the thief bell off when I went through the door to leave. A little old lady and a 300 pound gorrila jumped out and asked me if they could de-activate my package. I told them NO, nobody touches it and nobody touches me. I told them they have two choices. Either the cashier that failed to de-activate it could de-activate it or they could call the police. The cashier handled it and I turned out to be a redneck. Are you a redneck or are you a sheep? Baaa!!

Guess it would depend on how they approached me. If they are nice, I would be, too. If they were rude, I can be, too. I believe in treating others as they treat you.

Them being nice really doesn't have anything to do with it Rob.

I am not a thief!! When that bell goes off, Walmart is insinuating that I am a thief. Then they want to rifle through my personal effects, which I must allow in order to prove I am not a thief.



Something is wrong here. I don't allow people to falsely accuse me of anything, or to paw through the stuff I bought which has now become my personal effects, just to satisfy them selves that it really was a cashiers mistake or a malfunction of their equipment.

The bells are always ringing at the "Appliance Store" near me. They always have a guy next to the door, but I've never seen him ask anyone if they are stealing something. I presume that he watches and sees that they just left the cashier and they aren't trying to conceal anything.



On the other hand, he might just be lazy, like all the rest of his co-workers

Me and my friends used to go to big CD stores like Coconuts and Tower Records and peel the anti theft labels off CD's and then put them on the floor sticky side up so somebody would walk by and get them stuck to there shoe, then watch the alarm go off when the person walked out. I have to admit, it was funny but i have not done that in years. Now we only do it to people we know, peel the label off and then "Bump" into your friends and stick the tag on there back. At least it gives the security people some excitment.

I understand the 'adrenalin' of the moment. It happened to me at Home Depot with a rototiller, of all things!! I didn't take it as an accusation, but rather an error by the cashier. I'm sure my face got red, but we all laughed about it.



The percentage of goods lost to thieves and pilfering employees is shockingly high. And, we honest people pay for theft with higher consumer prices. So my thought is bring on the technology and throw the dishonest SOBs in jail. If there's a false alarm along the way... ... ... laugh it off knowing the system works.

WyoJim... The guy at the door didn't make the rules, and is probably just trying to do his/her job. I do know what you mean about being falsely accused of that or anything, tho. And it can be kind of embarassing... .

Thats why they have these little old ladies there Rob. How could any one refuse this little old ladie request for you to prove you are not a thief. Well they don't impress me by using her one dam bit. If you insinuate that I'm a criminal its like waving a red flag in front of a bull.

WyoJim... I'm afraid I am a sucker for the little old ladies... I don't even care when they cut me off in traffic. I just keep thinking and hoping that someone will allow my mother to do that to them without getting irate if I let it pass. She is someone's mom.



I would not doubt that they have them there for that particular reason, tho...

wyojim-- not trying to flame you, but it seems much ado about nothing as the saying goes. Mistakes happen, life's too short to sweat the small stuff, especially in a town where likely no one knows or will remember you. I say just chill a bit.

my mom is a Walmart greeter and

she says that those sensors can be triggered by cell phones, keys, and other personnal items. when the lady asked if "she could de-activate the package", she probably already knew the cashier screwed up, I'm assuming your pic isn't in the post office (just kidding). when stores have to take precautions against theft, it causes heartache for the honest folks. she didn't ask to see your reciept, remember that.

What cracks me up... Why did they want to deactivate the strip once the alarm was tripped and they were sure that the item was not being stolen. Is there some rule about letting activated strips in the wild?

As for Doc's question about doordingers in the wild, they'll trigger another store's system to make noise when you ENTER!



that confuses the crap out of a new employee, too!



Prescription theft is a major dollar-drain for drug stores.

Dispensed in the pharmacy, way in the back, and supposed to be rung up at the front counter. the bag/receipt end up behind the damn dog food on aisle 8 and the pills are in the purse.



I used to put doordingers inside the vials, (when warranted by previous "questionable" behavior)stuck to the inner surface of the plastic! Let that theivin' bugger go somewhere else when he/she sees how little I trusted them. Was that unfair? maybe to 1/10. Guess what? the 1/10 would question me, clarify the purpose, and then continue to be my patient. the other 9, Scott the front end mgr took care of them.



Course then they just started pouring the loose pills in their purses
